;D I am sorry, my news is so important TO ME! I booked my flight tonight, Aug . 8th,,, off I go! A very short visit( return on 16th) but every day is precious and I will enjoy each and every one. I am going by myself, so , if not obliged to visit anicent relatives whom I barely know, and who speak no english( an my french is pathetic at best) I shall savour each moment of alone time( those with kids, job and assorted other stresses know what I mean) .. I know there is a thread already for this, but since this is the most stupendous and wonderful thing, I felt it deserved its own thread. Now, .. you may all heap abuse on me for misuse of boards for gloating!! LOL

You can post this good news wherever you want, Joan. I'm extremely happy for you, and I'm sure that as soon as all the sleeping posters wake up and read your thread, they too will be thrilled.

joan - how wonderful for you !! >>I shall savour each moment of alone time<< Yes, I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes it can be hard to explain to colleagues or friends that we DO have the heart to leave husband and kids at home, as if something MUST be wrong, if you want to go by yourself. Nothing's wrong, we just want to rest our ears and brains for a few days.....

Joan...if sharing one's excitement about going to Paris makes one selfish, then we're ALL the most selfish bunch on the planet! Gloat and enjoy!!

:-/In total agreement!!! Hope I'll be posting on the "selfish" thread soon!
Paris is the most wonderful place for alone time...or with your S/O, or your family, or your best buddys, or business associates, or your pet,or................................etc. etc,. etc.

Hear, hear to all of the above! I made many more trips to France alone than with others, and always loved being there. And, there's nothing "selfish" about allowing all of us an opportunity to vicariously enjoy your anticipation of your trip (I mean, what do you think is at least 30% of the reason this forum is so popular?)!
You'll have a great time, and we look forward to hearing more details as you decide what you'll do, and of course which flavors of Berthillion you want to try this time (they may be closed, but at least their product is available in other places -- although on a hot night, the lines for every source are likely to be long).

How exciting for you - a trip to Paris is definitely worthy of some selfishness. Mez

It's not selfish, we at the Paris Appreciation Society must keep up our quota of visits......Infact we are all such good embassadors for the place I reckon that the French government should give us all the keys to the city and free travel to boot!!!! ;D

thanks guys,,, I get excited even reading the posts! Now to find a hotel, with a vacancy, and under 150 euros, and A/C!!
Anyone know much about Hotel Able,,, it looks to be in a very busy area, but, I like the idea of being able to wander around in that area and not have a long hike back to a hotel in the evening! I have read reviews on TA, and they seem fine. There is a few others I am thinking about also. Any suggestions? I do like the idea of being very central.
I also invite any other " gloaters" to post!

Congrats Joan! I can SO relate to your excitement. I felt the same when planning my trip to Paris in December. It was my first visit and something magical happened as soon as I booked my flight, I became obsessed w/ every little detail. I studied my map daily, trying to commit to memory every detail about my temporary neighborhood and beyond. When I arrived it was everything I had hoped for and more. I'll admit, the planning stage is almost as exciting as being there. So enjoy the next few months of daydreaming. It seems everyone here can relate so you're in good company!

Hi Joan,
We will be staying at the Prince de Conde, 39 Rue de Seine, for our 7th consecutive trip in October and again in March 08. We are made really welcome, a/c!, only 12 rooms, ideal location, wonderful, friendly staff, and we book direct with hotel at 160 euros incl breakfast. Rooms are a good size for Paris, and overlook a lively, but on an evening/night time quiet street.
25m to La Palette, and surrounded by some lovely art galleries, and 100m Rue de Buci and the food markets, 80m, Fish La Boissonerie, an exceptional seafood restaurant with a young American Chef at the helm, 150m Le Pont des Arts. What more could you want!!!!
Best wishes

Selfish alert,,,, I have just booked a hotel. Hotel Le Regent,, a bit out of my budget comfort zone, but, I have decided to treat myself comfortably,, and this location looks good, busy, but not too busy. Since I am on my own I prefer not having to walk down totally deserted streets at night,, but, don't want to be in the centre of the masses either..
Feels completely offical now. I must now try to live a normal life for the next NINE weeks,, my family holiday is two weeks before I leave for Paris ( a week long camping trip, ugh, not my favorite, but kids and hubby love it) and I am having a hard time rustling up enthusium for it!!! Iank9,, do your dogs love to love cats, or love to eat them!! LOL
shoesy,, your avatar is very nice, but , it is driving me crazy, everytime I see it I think " must get a pedicure, must get a pedicure! " LOL

Hi Joan,
Sorry for delay in reading your post.
And happy you are "sorted" for your next trip!
The dogs honestly do not mind cats in the least. We have a rabbit that lies across our back door and neither dogs will come into the house until someone picks the rabbit up. Big softies!!!!!
Best wishes
