Here we are . It has just been officially announced that Sarko and Carla got married this morning . We now have a First Lady who is a former top model, current singer and former (and certainly future too) men-eater . Pathetic .
BTW, Sarko's approval rate has recently dipped down to 41% ;D ...

My Paris Notes for Feb arrived yesterday and the editorial made it sound like the marriage had already happened! Will watch the news for the details...haven't gone to news on the net yet..came here first! ;D Now the press will be on "baby bump" watch! I guess it will make travelling together easier. And after rock stars and the like, why hang out with the President of France if you don't get all the perks? I guess the same goes for him. May they be very happy.

Geordy, you are just hopeless ... How could you give up a once-in-a-lifetime experience for yet another Superbowl ! However, we could have done without you , but somehow Happy's presence would have been, let's say, desirable ;D ...

Anne, I must admit...geordy's right. Not even love and marriage with the president of France would have gotten in the way of the Super Bowl when the Patriots are in the fight.
There was an article on page two of the Boston Globe this morning announcing the wedding had taken place on...was it Friday or yesterday? Anyway, it's a done deal.
GO PATS!!!

Well let look at the good side: In March when the Sarkoskys will be visiting England, there will be one less bedroom to get ready for the staff of our Majesty!

Congrats to Geordy on your Giants Superbowl win! Happy are you still crying? What a game though. Wasn't that last minute and a half, like an eternity???

As reported by Time/CNN February 25, 2008
Many of the 19 million French who voted for Mr. Sarkozy are now mortified by his flashy private lifestyle and his talking trash. His approval rating in down to 38%. An altercation at the Annual Farmer's Congress had had a million hits on Le Parisian's web site. Many voters are now seeing him as intemperate, belligerent and undignified.
Is this just political rheteroic ? Is it over the top reporting ? Does it have any affect on the people of France ?

I am one of those 19 millions, and I now feel exactly as CNN describes it

I was absolutely mortified that the French voted for Sarkozy. It reminds me of the same hideous mistake we (not me) made about 7 years ago!

Did anyone see yesterday's newsclip of Sarko calling the heckler a "total jerk"? It just keeps getting better...

I was absolutely mortified that the French voted for Sarkozy. It reminds me of the same hideous mistake we (not me) made about 7 years ago! Well, there wasn't much choice left on the second vote : it was either him or that dumb Segolene . She would certainly have been a more dignified president (not a difficult task here), but apart from that, she really wasn't up to doing the job (I know, question is : is he ?) ... She is already talking about the next presidential election though but then Bertrand Delanoe has his own ambitions too, so it is likely that both of them will fight for the Socialist nomination . But then so many things can happen in four years .

I find the Sarko situation amusing after enduring the near fatal boredom of the aloof Chirac for so many years. At least now the Italian, British and American papparazzi will have some competition in France Reminiscent of the Clinton years but with a more photogenic wife/wives.

Frankly, I can't say I'm sorry to see Sarko go down in flames. He (and all the other social conservatives of his ilk) deserve what they get! Eventually, voters on both sides of the ocean will learn that they need to vote for the best interests of their entire nation, rather than focusing on their own little, narrow slice of the economic pie.

I certainly don't want to start a political discussion here (much too controversial ), but I have the feeling that Conservatives in France (I am not talking about the Extrême Droite here of course) are actually less conservative than the US Democrats on many matters .

I think you're "right" there, Anne! My politics lean left so I can't say that I'm either surprised or sad to hear about Sarko's decline in the polls...
