I read that description of "the ring" somewhere last week and thought Huh?? And it was by a design house, Dior?? rather than one of the big time jewelers.

Quite hideous from the pictures that I've seen.

In this same article, it showed them walking along the beach in Egypt (?) and the president of the country told him they would not be welcomed back unless they were married.

I haven't seen the ring myself, but let's not forget that age old adage that money can't buy taste...and from your descriptions the ring sounds particularly gaudy. Mez

Too bad Woody Allen is getting old and doesn't do movies anymore. This conversation would make a great woody allen script like some of his early ones. And then we would serve many saucers of cream

Woody Allen's newest movie Cassandra's Dream has just been released. The trailers look good!

According to a new opinion poll, 93 % of the French think that the media talk or write too much about Sarko's private life .

Haha, Sarko and Carla are now suing Ryanair for its latest (not-too-subtle) advertisement : [a href=" "] [/a] It reads : "Thanks to Ryanair, my whole family can come and attend my wedding"

HA! Thanks Anne - that is SO funny and clever! But how can they sue? Sarko asked for all of this attention by making his private life public, if you ask me. It's fair game.

So true, Sis. But since he wants to embrace all things American, he's unfortunately right on track with a lawsuit!

It'll be interesting to see if they can find a judge who would rule against the president of the country.

Well, as much as I am bewildered at the Americans' tendancy to sue for every possible reason, I think that Sarko and Carla are actually right to sue in this specific situation : this is not newspapers' or even tabloids' stuff, this is purely an advertising for a commercial company . No company should be allowed to use one's image for commercial purposes without one's authorization IMO, and I am quite sure that there is something about this in the French Law .

I quite agree with you Anne. Being a commerical advertisement and not a news story, etc. changes the whole picture.

Actually, I think that's a law in the US too.

I, too, am quite certain that it is illegal to use a person's name or image for the purpose of advertising without his/her consent. Therefore, I am surprised that Ryanair would do such a stupid thing.

Well, maybe it is one of those very well calculated risk. The out of court settlement will be less than the publicity benefices. It seems to work, we are talking about Ryanair, n'est-ce pas!

Well, as usual I'm a little behind. None the less, I do enjoy a little overseas gossip! How old is she/he? Is she pregnant? Who did she use to be married to? Did they get married or is that still a guessing game? Politically, he certainly is backing himself into a corner. No one seems to want to invite him back or even invite him in the first place. I think hes got himself into a rather sticky situation. And I'm such a softy, what about his children? I'm sure that they get picked on,poor things. Susanb
