Gitte - I thought that by now I've managed to convince you that Ian's babies (not "creatures") are both adoring and adorable. The word "dog" is by no means synonomous with "dangerous beast". I think you should realize that your fear of canines is a personal Gitte problem and has nothing to do with those sweet animals.

Bonjour, Bonjour.... just back from Paris (1 week) and sooo want to still be there!!... I had an amazing time....just want to comment on the Rugby (being a good New Zealand girl) and put my two cents in to say...... GO THE ALL BLACKS!!! I was able to watch the first few games at a great little restaurant/bar on Rue Monge in the 5th... Restaurant Du Palais.. wonderful people there and I even managed to get the whole bar backing the All Blacks game - pretty good I thought! Roniece

The All Blacks are very popular here, because they are so good and because of the Haka too, so people are quite willing to support them . As long as they don't play against France, of course

I am woefully uneducated when it comes to anything having to do with rugby (except the "rugby shirt" )...what in the world is a Haka??

Sister, please watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_CaSu-fnGgYou´ll see what haka is. Maybe parisbound can explain it better, but it is a kind of maori war cry, and they perform it before every match. They really know how to make their opponents feel frightened.

Sandy, it is quite interesting that, being on the other side of the world from Argentina, we have the same tradition here and it is even called the same : "troisième mi-temps" . This is a major tradition in the South-West of France, where rugby teams gather after having played one against the other and then have an hours-long festin, with huge quantities of local food, plus wine and liquors, and much singing (dedicated songs) too ... This tradition is getting lost in the major teams whose players have become professional ones (rugby used to be an amateur-only sport in France until a few years ago), because those players are expected to follow some kind of sports dietetics (and this excludes heavy eating and drinking of course ), but the smaller clubs stick to it very much, this is indissociable from rugby for the players .

Yes Anne, it is the same here. Rugby is still an amateur sport in Argentina, and except for those who play for other country´s teams (like Agustin Pichot), the Pumas players are still amateur, that´s why is such a deed when they beat a professional team. Some of the players are doctors, bank clerks, and there´s even a lyric singer (Omar Hasan), who play rugby in their spare time.
Anne, doesn´t your son play rugby?

No, my son plays football (soccer), if only because we live in the Northern part of France where football is much more popular with kids . But my father-in-law is from the S-W of France and is mad about rugby, and my husband's cousins down there all play or used to play rugby . The reason why the national rugby board allowed rugby to become professional (in 1995 I think) was indeed that the players, who had their own jobs to perform, lacked training compared to most other countries' players . And quite a few of them had that little belly due to too many troisièmes mi-temps ...

Geordy, we will know next Sunday evening which 8 teams will play the "quarts de finale" . And the All Blacks are still very much the huge favourites for the final prize .

Of course you will !!! Honestly, how could your your photo of the All Blacks in a Haka stance match the photos of the French in their nude calendar ? Any woman here (except from Roniece, OK) who pretends otherwise will be called an hypocrite ;D. It happens that there are good chances that France may actually play the All Blacks on the quarts de finale, and it looks BAD for us (well, for anyone playing the All Blacks, actually...)

Anne, during our weekly French lesson last night our French teacher (who is English) told us that we must shout "Allez les bleu" everytime we see the rugby
