Ha! My husband IS the doctor, and you'd better believe that he had some sedatives on board for our flight in February. I'm sure he'll be renewing that prescription!

Bonjour, goldenmama, and welcome to our (Parisian) world! Glad you're in almost-vacation mode and finally getting over to see the (geographic) object of your affections -- and as to the other object of your affections, he will be fine once he's moderately medicated and underway. (I speak as one who also used to be terrible about flying -- but going to Europe actually cured me because I was determined to see it and there was no other way, so eventually that part of my brain just shut up and got over it!) I'm betting that he will decide it's worth it, and after awhile he will be the one suggesting that you return. Be sure to ask us (the "collective us") anything you are wondering, and someone is bound to know the answer or have a suggestion as to how you can find the answer. What are you going to be doing, and how long will you be there? And once again -- welcome!

And, of course, hi geordy as well -- glad you made it through the alligator pit to the "other side" (or other "site")! If there's anything this group knows how to do, it's "play nicely"!

I can't sleep on a plane without something. I'm not afraid to fly. I think it must have something to do with adrenaline and teh excitement of going someplace, because I have no trouble sleeping on the way HOME. Whatever gets him on that plane though, goldenmama...

Thanks! I love nice people!
We are going June 30-July 7--six weeks from tomorrow! We're excited to see all of the typical sites, but honestly, I am most excited to just walk around and eat!
I write down every time someone suggests a food spot--ice cream, chocolate, cheese, bread. My itinerary will be largely food oriented, it seems!

Oh god don't apologize for THAT...eating is quite a lot of the fun associated with Paris....at least for us foodies ;D. Is there a budget for the eating or is the sky the limit? Do you have any Must-Try places on your list that we should know about?

Sometimes I think we all must have been French in a former life. Have a good weekend, all. Leaving for the day...over and out.

Foodies unite!
I have completely obsessed over the restaurant choices and have changed my mind a couple of times.
This whole trip has been so expensive that I really want to avoid the most expensive places. Besides, we've got to keep 2 kids (14 and 10) and a vegetarian happy!
The places I'm considering:
L'Ami Jean La Bastide Odeon Astier L'Ardoise Le Pamphlet Mon Vieil Ami
Please excuse gross spelling errors as I am writing those names out from memory.
I am open to any and all suggestions!
This site can get addicting; its my 3rd visit this morning. I need to get a life!

Hi Goldenmama,
We took our 3 teens (14, 15 and 17 at the time) and yes, it can get real expensive! We tried to stick to bistros as opposed to full-blown restaurants. A good value (and a fun place) was Chez Denise - really traditional tasty bistro food and HUGE portions at reasonable prices. The vegetarian might have to settle for some frites and a salad, but still... We're total foodies too so I know the restaurant choice agony...Good Luck!

Greetings to all TA members well @#@ lost first response. GitteK, I'm here, had to email shoesy, you've been blocked at TA. I agree with most of your points however TA could make their site much more user friendly and research easier if they had a Power Search and how to use. Lots of people have no idea how to even start researching or even searching on TA. I had posted that I would be more than happy to make suggestions on how to start and what to do. (I do have over 30 years experience in doing so and lots before Internet) I only got a couple of responses. Off-topic, well darn some of us just like to tell other how much we love Paris. but then again I was spoiled my first trip in 97 was for work, 21 days, business class, all expenses paid except for souvenirs (sic). I also rarely Post any more because on one Post two of the so-called Paris Experts proceeded to berate me that I should even ask the questions and then were adamant that I had no idea how to exchange money which had very little to do with original question. So I tried to Post only questions that I cannot find an answer for on TA or a website, such as my questions regarding top of Arc. However if you want to see how a really good forum is run, go to sweepsadvantage.com, on left side click on forum. non-members can read just not post. I am a member but I have won several prizes over the last couple of years. Of course I enter every one I can for Paris. Right now I am trying to figure out (without robbing a bank) how to go back for a very long visit.

Wanted to share this funny story! This probably is not the place but I am just now exploring this forum. Someone had said they felt they had been a Parisian in a former life. I do too so why can I not speak French easier? Well I am that way about the (US) deep south. Whenever I would go to Charleston, Savannah, Mobile, etc. I would have these moments of deja vu. I told a friend about this but said I just could not see myself in the dresses and corsets. She laughed and said "did you ever think maybe you were not a woman then". hmm never thought of that.

Hi Penny ! I might have been a Parisian in a former life too. I must have experienced the guillotine because I still tend to get a sore neck from time to time, and that's why I schlep my orthopedic pillow with me when I travel.

Hi, Just let me know if and when you are going. We are flying AF but leave for the French countryside the day after the August arrival. Get back into Paris on the 11th of September, probably late in the afternoon or even early evening and then stay in Paris till we fly AF back on the 19th. Last June we flew US Air but our friend flew Air India. Her response was that it was crowded and noisy but left and arrived on time and did not lose her luggage. It is hard to find an airline where the experience is more than tolerable. My primary criterion is safe, next one is luggage arriving with me.

I can't believe how quickly this forum has grown!! I admit that I despaired of finding participants for the first month, but thanks to everyone's word-of-mouth campaign, we just might make a go of this thing!

The places I'm considering: L'Ami Jean La Bastide Odeon Astier L'Ardoise Le Pamphlet Mon Vieil Ami I ate at Bastide Odéon a number of years ago. I recall that it was quite good, but that they were out of many of their specialties by the time we arrived. Be warned that Le Pamphlet is closed due to a flood. Their other location, Bistro le Petit Pamphlet, is open and it's one of my favorite restaurants in Paris. I has a stylish ambience, the service is friendly and considerate, the food is first rate, the wine selection is very good, and the prices are really fair. 15 rue Saint-Gilles just a block or so off boulevard Beaumarchais. Astier was a discovery from our trip in February. LuckyLuc was with us, as well. "Shock and awe" is the only way to describe our reaction to the cheese course--27 selections, as I recall. We ate there twice in the space of a week.

Truffaut - shouldn't this exchange of restaurant-ideas and tips go into the Food-section ? Or maybe it's just the structure fascist who comes up in me....
