I could understand the need of a tour for China or even Egypt but for Paris? I find it really sad, because I adored Paris so much, to hear that some tourists did not like Paris. It make me want to take their hands and slowly and genlty guide them.

I know exactly what you mean, Luc. And I'm sure you know a thousand places in Paris that I don't. Can you imagine having to eat breakfast at McDonald's because that's the only place that has room for 80 people at once? That happened to my friends. They are an older couple and they went on a bus tour thu Italy. They ate at McDonald's!!! And came home not liking Italy very much. How sad...not to mention having to make sure your suitcase is outside for the bus by 5am. Sheesh...you're on vacation!!

Cybee, not to worry. If Paris is Heaven, then all good mothers go to Paris when they pass on (and it's not a tour

Not all tours are so bad! I do small group tours of Paris, no more than 8 people. They are wonderful. NO bus, no chain restaurants, we discover the Parisians' Paris, eat at neighborhood restaurants, etc. The people who tend to go are the ones who want to do Paris but don't want to mess it up by doing the wrong thing. They love it!!

Oh I know. One of my selling points is basically "We aren't Globus". Nothing like seeing a country through a window...

Hi All, I am a new member but I recognize many names. I am planning a trip to Paris and London in 11 days and I read everything that I can find about both places. This is my 5th visit to Paris but the first time to rent an apartment. We will be staying in Montmartre and I can hardly wait to get there. I just want to thank all of you who post such wonderful info here. My family tells me that I am obsessed with Paris and it seems that I have found kindred spirits here.

Dearest jfdcdfdf - whatever - florida ! Hurry up and tell me where you will be staying? I shall be in MM in the last 2 weeks of June (and DO NOT pay attention to the choir of voices answering: "YES ! We know, Gitte !!!" MM is a delightful village - especially at dinnertime, when the crowds have retired to the "1st to 7th" arr.

We will be staying on rue Hudon in an apartment that I found on Perfectly Paris. I have not spent a lot of time in MM but it just seemed right for us.

Gitte - Yes Gail has been great to deal with. We arrive on Sunday May 27 for a week and I can't think of anything but this trip. If you have any specific MM tips I would love to hear them. Last May we had 4 days in Paris after a week in Provence and it was not enough. We have a 16 yr old daughter who is bringing the same friend as last year to have more Paris adventures. Is your apartment from Gail too? I think that I looked at every apartment in Paris and London in planning this trip.

And isn't it funny that if my post had been "the other way round" - posted in TA and referring you to this website - it would be closed down immediately ! I think they have some former Stasi-officers from good old East Germany employed at the TA administration !!

Gitte - Thanks so much for those links. I will look at all of those today, but for now my dog is urging me away from the computer to take her on her morning stroll. By the way, I listen to French language instruction on my Ipod while I walk. I never give up trying to learn French, but I admit that I am not gifted. I can get by but would love to be fluent. As for the competition (TA), I had lurked a bit there but found that the questions were repetitive and the posters seemed to lack the initiative to do their own research - many of you were so patient to answer those questions over and over.

What a treat to find all of the nice people from TA!
Our first trip to Paris is coming up in 6 weeks, and I have been avidly researching the city for months. I gave up on TA after being accosted for a simple (and sensible, I thought!) question a while back. Talk about abuse--sheeze! I am thrilled to see so many of the names here that I thought of as the"friendly people" on the other site!
My kids have been taking French in school for 5 years and want to visit Paris very badly. Our big hurdle was getting my husband, who is afraid to fly, to agree to an overseas trip. We got him on a plane in Feb. to go to the Bahamas, so now we're on a roll.
I am so excited to go, I can't begin to tell you. Thank you all for the chance to learn from your experiences and to catch your enthusiasm!

Hi goldenmama...welcome! Yes we are a fun bunch. No backbiting, ugly people here...just good, clean...well, it's clean most of the time anyway fun. You must be getting so excited! Have you considered getting the doctor to prescribe a mild sedative for your husband? Nothing that would make him a zombie, just to relax him?
