joan1 - how true. Your post put tears to my eyes also. Even though my mother can be a pain in the *** sometimes (recognize ??!!) - I have come to realize that she will not be around forever. I try to go and see her at least once a week, sometimes two, as she lives close to the route I take home from work. No long visits, just hello and a chat about day-to-day events. And then I have taken her to Paris last year with one of her close friends and my sister-in-law. And this year in September I shall go with her again, plus another of her friends. They live in this small village and now that husbands have started to pass away, they are a regular Merry Widows' Club. I call it my "Gitte's 65+ Travel Agency" - we are there for 4 full days and I show them around to places that ordinary tours don't come to. I put memories in my bank this way - for later.

Those of you can spend quality time with your moms and/or dads are very fortunate. I live so far away from everyone, so I didn't have that opportunity to do that except during the summers. My parents are no longer alive, but I have some wonderful memories of the good times that we spent together.

Roniece,, will you be there when I am there, I am going Aug 9th-18th, too short I know for all the flying( gosh you have a much longer flight then me don't you?) I must those Paris lovers from "down under" ( NZ or Aust) sure have to submit to a gruelling physical test of endurance to visit our beloved Paris,, !! I have about a ten or eleven hour flight,, not counting stops..,, but our down unders have it twice as bad I think.

Yes Joan1 that's right - for me from Sydney to Paris it is 8hrs first to Singapore then 12hrs from Singapore to Paris! but I have now worked out the best seat on the plane (well, not the best seat coz that would be first class right?) .... on Singapore Airlines that is, in economy is 38G - an aisle seat with a free row behind!! Just perfect for stretching my tired limbs and hanging over my seat to sleep standing up! LOL I will be arriving on 19th Aug so will just miss you.... hmmm.... perhaps my 2months calculation is a little out then by a few days! I think I would like to exalt you for your compassion and understanding of how long 'we' down unders have to travel to get back to our beloved Paris! Merci! Roniece

I won't dare to do that count-down thing. The numbers probably don't go up that high.

goldenmama - I cannot take credit for finding it. It was robertzimmermann who posted the link, at the start of this thread. But thanks anyway.

I love that countdown site! I think I'll get it up and running at work - we work with 2 screens, so I can work on one while looking at the countdown on the other. So at the time of writing this I have 2075 hours (86 days) until I leave Sydney and 2727 (113 days) until I get to Paris -yeah!! Mez.

Susanb, yes I am truly blessed with my terrific daughter. The amazing thing is we do get along and love spending time together. Well, at least I do! I am sure she feels the same way. She is taking me and Jordan to NY this weekend to see BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She took, Jordan in April and thought that I would enjoy seeing it. So we are off to the big apple on Sat.

sistereurope - 4760 hours does sound doable. I cannot wait. I have sent the pics of our apt in Paris to all my friends to make them jealous. Isn't that mean?

goldenmama - OK, I wouldn't be so afraid of him, maybe. He has a cute smile - I just hate it when they bark, that always makes me so insecure whether they are going to bite or not.
5 days, 6 hours, 38 minutes and 30 seconds before I am leaving for Paris !!!
