We have 24 days until we leave and I've started having trip nightmares. Last night I dreamed that we left for Paris and I forgot to take my dog to the kennel. I kept trying to call the kennel, but I couldn't read the phone number or make the phone work!

goldenmama - I always have nightmares before I go on a trip. Once I dreamt that I forgot to take shoes except for the pair I was wearing.

Yep, That is my *little* baby, Tarzan. A smallish 7 year old Saint Bernard. I say small because he should be 180 -200 lbs, but he is only 160, the size of a moderate female.
But don't tell him that...he has plenty of self-esteem issues already!

Tarzan is absolutely gorgeous. I love that expression on his sweet little face.

What you people don't know is that Gitte is terrified of all dogs.

Joan; I'm VERY happy for you that you were able to work things out at home and now can be on your way to Paris.
Willow; That is the most beautiful animal.

Tarzan would be the canine with the keg. The deer in the back is unamed, but quite handsome nonetheless!
And it's ok that Gitte is afraid of dogs since Tarzan is more like a horse/pony anyway!

Shoesy - I aint afraid of dogs, what nonsense.... yorkshires are OK ...... I also like hotdogs !! And if I could bring along a REALLY mean, fierce Maine Coone tomcat (or better: two) who hasn't tasted live mice for a looooong time, I'll face Tarzan and his reindeer any day !! ps. I'm terrified of horsies too........

Whoah! Now THERE'S a cat! Hey, GitteK... I hear you about those horsies! I always feel intimidated by them...but my best friend growing up had a horse (so my mom bought me a horse..and yikes!) and now I have a husband who loves and owns horses! WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME! ha! Now I have a shih tzu...named "Pansy"...that may tell you how scarey SHE is! ha! Et btw, what does "Fluctuat nec mergitur" mean? The first word seems a bit ...um..concerning , perchance?

cybee - I used to dream of owning a horse when I was a child. (Hey.........can you imagine riding a horse throughout the streets of Paris?)
That cat in Gitte's photo kind of reminds me of our Cinnamon.

You are a very nice daughter to have talked your mom into going to Paris with you. Sometimes a caregiver does need a break as well as the one being taken care of. Everyone has a little renewel of spirit. I'm so happy that you will be able to go during the holidays. Won't it be fun to see all the different store windows dressed up in their finest? Take plenty of pics. and SHARE! I'm happy for you both. Where will you stay? susan\
OH DEAR. I DON'T USUALLY TALK SO MUCH LET A ALONE MONOPOLIZE A COMPLETE FOROM. ARE YOU SURE THIS IS ME?

I love horses. There is nothing better than the smell of a leather saddle, the horse, and the feeling of all the power. s

Willow, I love big dogs, and yours looks very lovable to me. As already said, "big dogs rule!" Horses, scare me, they know I have eaten their kind, even though it wasn't on purpose( grandmother told me it was steak!)and they just act funny when I come around. I do think horses are like dogs in that they sense fear though.
My trip has altered slightly. Phoned and old and dear friend and told her that I had booked, and before I knew she " joked " about joining me. Within an hour she phoned me back to say she had enough airmiles to book!! Well, I am glad for her company for the dinners, but, I do think we will have to have some other guidelines put in,, she is not into museums,, her idea of FUN is to ride her bike 100 kms a day!!!!! We will have some wine soaked dinners, and it will be her first time in Paris( or in Europe period) so perhaps I will enjoy seeing everything through a first timers eyes. Problem was I had decided to elimanate a few things this trip around,, like the Eiffel Tower, which of course now I can't!!! Planning is fun, but now I cannot be quite so " selfish", yikes!

Sistereurope,, Enjoy the time with your mom, it is a special treasure, nothing replaces time spent together. I lost my mom last year,, and I was her caregiver. Your mom is still strong and healthy,, and should do as much as her pocket and health will bear. As my mom got weaker and weaker, towards the end, I asked her if she had any regrets in life. She said " I wish I had travelled more" ,,, I find it heartbreaking that while she had her health she saved her money( she did take some nice trips) ,, and then ,, when it became apparent she would neve be well enough again,, that she actually had regrets.. It is not good to leave with regrets.. it actually makes me cry just writing this post..
Everyone, go ,, do what you can ,, now, not later.. hug your mom, hug your kid( if it is a teenager you may have to wait till they are asleep, LOL ) and embrace having your health. I step off my soap box now.
