What can I say that hasn't been said yet ;D ? This apartment is the well-deserved reward for your determination, I'm very glad that it all ended up so well. And to top it all, the euros/dollar rate has dropped ! I'm sure that you'll manage to persuade Darryl to let you use the gains on the decoration .

Congratulations Annette. I know that you will both be very happy in your own place. I am sure that Pierre Herme will deliver on a daily basis.

Wow. I'm so impatient I'd pick whoever can get the job done fastest. Probably not the smart choice, but I just can't wait to see the finished product. I'm so thrilled for you.

OMG! How on earth did they manage to screw up the color of the kitchen cabinets? On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is the gray blue color? Gray blue actually sounds nice to me, but if you wanted taupe, then you should have gotten taupe !!!

I'd make the guess that there was a keystroke error when the order was entered...the code entered was for the blue/grey...and so every time they checked it, the code was right, so they kept right on going.

I can imagine the shock when you discovered the pictures !
Check your copy of the bon de commande, if the colour was already wrong at that step and you didn't notice it, then it may be difficult for you to demand a change/compensation. But if the bon de commande is correct, then you have the right to demand either a change of the furniture or a significant discount. Of course a change would be unconvenient for you because of the delay and your coming trip. But does the gray blue match the tiles and countertop colours ? If not, then I guess that you must really have it changed ...
Just being curious : is it a big kitchen company ? If so, which one ?

Oh, I'm sure someone noticed, Annette -- there were probably lots of mumblings of "good Lord, these crazy Americans - who would order this color cabinets, when any idiot can see they don't match ANYthing!"
But if there's anybody out there who will step up to the plate and provide actual customer service, it's Darty...they win all kinds of awards for it, and it's nice sometimes to shop there, because you know they won't backhand you if there's a problem.
We bought a microwave from Darty, and a few months later, it quit working. I phoned the hotline and managed to communicate that the thing wasn't working -- they sent a guy out to the house to fix it! It would have been far cheaper for them to have told me to bring it into the store and get a replacement...but I have a working microwave and I didn't have to lug it back to the store.

Oh so it's true that Darty is now selling fitted kitchen too ! Until recently they only sold the kitchen electrical appliances. Glad that things get solved for you Annette.
Sunshine is right, Darty is famous for its customer service, actually they have always based their communication on this point. I recently chose them as my new internet/phone provider because they have an incredibly high satisfaction rate in customers' services surveys in comparison with all other providers. Darty must be the only internet provider in France that answers hotline's calls within seconds, and so far I've always received very efficient help on the line.

Fortunately, we've had a new bathroom and new kitchen installed; new windows; refinished floors; walls patched and painted; electrical improvements, and an interior ravalement. Aside from having the balcony resurfaced, we don't have anything else that needs to be done for the forseeable future (yay!). Oh dear! I haven't been on here for awhile and just ran across this posting from March 8, 2010.....
