Welcome to Matt and Paula! Paula, I always get the same question or remark from friends. I always tell them that I am like a Navajo who cannot stay away from her beloved land very long.... Of course, my Navajo friends understand, the rest just give me that look! Enjoy your 10 months of planning. Matt, a belated congratulations on your marriage! Enjoy your beautiful apartment in Paris.

I now have 10 months to research and plan out every last minute detail, go on Google streetview a few thousand times more, look up every restaurant in a 5 K radius, etc. Not that I'm obsessed, or anything. I will also get to experience my family and friends saying "you're going to Paris again? Why don't you go someplace else?". Good question, but not one I have an answer for! How do you explain PPD to someone who has never experienced it? Welcome, Paula! You're in the right place--all of us regulars here can totally relate to these comments!

Welcome Paula! I know how you feel. I'm sure that's part of the reason I enjoy this forum - kindred spirits. I drive to our office just outside Toronto periodically. Maybe we can have an OPF GTG in Toronto

Hi Paula! You know me as Happygoin from TA ;D I long ago stopped trying to explain to my friends why I can't stop going to Paris...and when I'm not there, dreaming about how I can manage to get there sooner rather than later. It's a sickness, I know. We probably all need a 12-step program Welcome to OPF, a bunch of happy Paris addicts

:)Hi Paula, nice to see you hereat last.....you have come along way from the person who asked, was it worth going to Paris for the weekend! LOL!
Paula is well known to me, she very kindly gave me some rail tickets, which enabled us to have a great trip to Deuville. I never forget kindness like that.
Unfortunately our planned GTG didn't happen last May when Paula couldn't find the venue, but maybe one day Paula, one day.
Love Denise.

Denise, I think that you would definitely win the prize for personally having met the most OPF-ers.

Aloha from Kaua'i!
Some of you might recognize me - from the Kaua'i TA forums, or more recently the Paris TA forums, since I've been haunting that forum for help and tips on my upcoming 2nd visit to Paris next month! I fell in love with it last year and am so very fortunate to have a wonderful husband who knows how much I DO love it and is taking me back for 2 weeks!
So, happy to have found yet another site with wonderful people and info!
Malama Pono, (take care), Janet

Welcome Matt, Paula and Janet! It's so nice to see you guys here. You will love this forum, everyone is so kind, patient and generous (unlike some people on some other forums ) Nice to see another Canadian, Janet. There's a few of us here and we all suffer the same PPD as everyone else, lol I also get the same comments - Paris again? ? Those who haven't been will never understand the ache that comes from not being in the place you love with all your heart. Jo

;DLovely to see Janet here as well. Your enthusiasm for Paris comes over loud and clear. Denise, I think that you would definitely win the prize for personally having met the most OPF-ers. Thanks Happy....but I think that award must go to SandyM. Also she must get the prize for travelling the furthest to meet other OPFers. To my knowledge she has travelled to San Francisco, New York and London as well as Paris to meet OPFers.

Hmmmm...not sure who would get the prize - At one time, I did have a list going of the OPF members that I have met - if I remember correctly, I have met 31 members!! I do love the Get Togethers - always fun to connect in person with people that you have communicated with online.

And a big "hello" from Israel. I would have welcomed you sooner, Janet, but I just returned from a very intensive 5 weeks with my family in N.Y., and it's taking me longer than usual to adjust. I have so much catching up to do regarding this lovely forum.

Hi all I'm living in Versailles for 7 years I have two passions: cooking and travelling (and one more which has nothing to do with the 2 previous one: Sailing) I travelled a lot the 5 last years, I went to Africa, Asia, in the US, Canada and central America. During all these trips I was a little bit bored with mass tourism. Thus I decided to create an association 4 years ago to promote responsible travel: www.globe2share.org (It might be useless for you if you don't speak french). As an exemple it propose you to be an eco-volunteer in many places around the world. I also decided to share my experiences and tips on forum such as LonelyPlanet.fr. That is the reason why I also like to give good advices on travelling. During these trips I also liked to discuss with other travellers to share about way of life in our countries... I went to India (someone offer me plane tickets) 2 months ago and I attend a cooking class in Udaipur by the local (I strongly recommend you that if one day you attend to go there...) and it was a wonderfull experience because we spend with my wife and 2 spanish guys a whole afternoon cooking Indian specialties and sharing with our professor feeling about India. I was touched by her story: she was a 39 year woman who lost her husband 10 years ago. She was from the brahman cast which is one of the highest cast in India. As she was brahman she was not allowed to work on simple things such as washing clothes ... she was close to become homeless. One day an autralian guy told her that she cooks very well and suggest her to open cooking classes. She did. Now she's n°1 on tripadvisor for udaipur city! It was very interesting because this activity was part of responsible travel that I promote with my association. (why am I telling you this story? it will come later) On the other hand my twins borned 18 month ago, that was a great but we were faced to financial difficulties because even if i'm an engineer, taking care of children in France cost a lot. Thus before going to India I decided to earn a bit of extra money by giving private physics classes to students (that was not a pleasant idea for me... but I had no choice). Just after attending the classes in India my wife told me that I should propose the same in France instead of giving boring physics classes. As cooking is my passion and as I love sharing experiences with travellers, I found this idea just great, so here I am, I created my company and propose this on week end evenings! I propose this activity since on month now and it is called "la cuisine de bertrand" you can easily find it if you google it (I'm pretty sure it won't be appreciated if I leave directly the URL). I'm open to questions about Versailles and Paris. If I can help, do not hesitate to contact me. See you soon on this board!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and just want to introduce myself. I'm a 30-something working mom who love and enjoy Paris. I've been there more than a dozen times and I still get butterflies in my stomach each time I visit ... sometimes even at just the thought of it! =) While my trips were mainly for a few days either to visit an exhibition, people watch, stroll around and, sometimes, shop, my dream is to be there for a couple of months to immerse myself in its culture and life. Hopefully, someday, I can make it into a reality. Here's my travelogue from my most recent trip this spring when I brought my daughter (she was 18 months then): deuxarmoires.wordpress.com/2011/03/22/paris/As with most people enamored by La Ville-Lumière, I miss each! deuxarmoires.wordpress.com/2011/09/27/jaimeparis/Thanks for letting me share.

Welcome to the forum ! I hope you enjoy being among us at least a fraction of what you enjoy when you're in Paris. ;D So you stayed in the Plaza Athenee ! How wonderful! It's a bit above my budget , but I can certainly enjoy the fact that an OPF member stayed there and was able to compare it to Le Meurice, which didn't live up to your expectations.

Thanks for the warm welcome Shoesy!
I've stayed at many hotels in Paris and have always, always dreamt of one day staying at the Plaza Athenee. So I took the plunge this spring with my daughter. Ah, it was just an amazing experience and one I'll truly never forget. The staff, our room ... not to mention the people watching ... over exceeded my expectations. Actually, after I wrote a review at TripAdvisor, the manager e-mailed me and apologized for not giving my daughter a present (she stated that it was supposed to be in our room, but I didn't see it). So, she mailed us a big red Plaza Athenee bear afterwards.

I'm the OH of Redqueen and I decided to join this forum after reading yet another 'How do I get from CDG to <insert name of hotel> question at the TA Paris forum.
I hope that does not sound superior!
Our son is moving down to London from Edinburgh and we were trying to figure out where in London he would be living and it struck us that we know more about the geography of Paris than we do of our own capital city.
I work at one of the universities in Manchester in IT and in the absence of any good offers from the management I'm about 3 years off retirement
