HOw exciting, an overseas job and no language worries to start off with anyways!!
I am glad you are going for it, it sounds like such an excellant opportunity, and yes, friends and family will visit ( who passes up free?, LOL )
I wouldn't dwell too much on the extra money, they are providing a car at least!

Hi All you OPFers I accepted the offer formally today - contingent on getting my visa which should be pretty straight forward thanks to an english grandfather ( with a French name so its karma !) My stomach is doing flips as I now realise that I have to pack up 41 years of assorted junk ( and there is an awful lot of it - why would anybody need three toasted sandwich makers, three tvs ( in a two bedroom one person household, ) three crockpots etc etc etc ) . Am sitting here surrounded by boxes!!! Just deciding on the start date - they want four weeks - eek !!!!! I want to thank you all for your wishes and your good advice - its strange really how I have not met any of you (yet) but through this forum I have shared with you one of the biggest decisions of my life. The power of Paris aye !!!! ;D Thanks again and all going well I will be doing my utmost to see some of you Sept 14 but will see how the whirlwind is going - I know one thing I will be needing a wine by then and most definatly a girls night out Denise - better get that tent aired out !!!

Megan,
Wow - what can I say but congratulations. That is extremely exciting news now that it's official!!
I am so very excited for you.
While I won't be in Paris for the Sept get-together, I will be in London in Nov. Perhaps we should arrange a Southern hemishere get-together at Laduree? Oui?

Megan - I can't imagine the thrill you're feeling. You've been given the opportunity of a lifetime, and your dream is coming true. Even though you now have lots of preparations before you leave, they probably won't be too stressful because you know that something good is going to come out of this experience. Lots of luck to you, my dear !!!

How come I have totally missed this development of this thread ?? Megan, my favorite wolly mammoth, has got herself a JOB (although grossly underpaid ) in the Queen's Own England !! Halleluja and Glory Be....... !! Now you'll have to learn British swearwords (andiandgaz and denise can help you) and drink "a-nice-cuppa-tea" when all other sensible persons would ask for un p'tit verre de rouge..... Also Yorkshire Pudding and Steak-and-Kidney-Pie are delicacies you can look forward to. This will be your new friends and fashions.......... (ps. I LOVED your dilemma when asked about why you applied for the job, and all you really wanted to say was "So that I can get to Paris whenever I like" ! ;D ;D)

Megan, this is such an amazing opportunity for you and we're all so excited. It's been fun to share this with you, even tho we've never met as you pointed out. But when you think about it, it makes perfect sense, because we're the only friends you get to take with you! We'll be here to chat and keep you company during the move and the initial culture shock just like always--nothing changes in our relationship just because you're moving a million miles away!

Megan , I'm overcome with joy for you! All the little problems like packing will disappear once you get on the plane to London. Maybe e can have a small GTG when we are next in Guildford!

This is a seriously exciting adventure! A bit scary, I'm sure, but wow - as you can tell, most of us (if we could juggle the details) would pretty much kill for the chance to do something like this. Don't worry too much about what to pack (you may end up with far too much!), but consider that part of the fun will be finding new things for your new place. (Will your emplyoer help you with the process of finding a place, or give you a week or two for a search when you first arrive, or is that just one more thing to cram into your life?) You're going to have a great time, even aside from the proximity to Paris (and London, don't forget London!)

Oh Megan, how wonderful! It is now a reality!! You'll be all settled in that tent Denise is providing (all properly aired out) by September that we'd be expecting you to tromp grapes with us and join in with the fun evening Gitte has arranged for us followed by our wonderful lunch on Sunday - and in PARIS. WOW!!!
