Hi Guys - not sure how I missed the last two posts asking me how I got on. Woke up this morning and there was an email in my inbox with a contract offering me the role. OMG now this is a reality I feel sick !! The money is not quite what I am looking for - not that money is the be all and end all but rents seem to be so exoensive in the UK. !! I have gone back tonight and asked them for a small increase in salary , the job has a car and all the extras so that was a bonus I was not expecting - still doesn't pay the rent tho. Reality is that I will really miss my friends and family but the role does not exist in NZ in my company and the experience will be amazing on my CV - plus only a short trip to Europe / Paris etc etc . Stay tuned - money may be a dealbreaker but am asking for 3000 pound more so fingers crossed they will accomodate - so close now !

Megan - That's fantastic news! I really hope you get the salary you're hoping for, but even if you don't, it still sounds like a great opportunity. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, my dear. Good luck.

Megan!
That is wonderful news! How exciting for you!
I understand how difficult a decision this is when you now have to factor in leaving family and friends. If it helps any, go back and read your original post - you were over the moon that these opportunities may be available.

That's really great Megan ! When are you supposed to start the new job ? And is it a contract for a limited duration - like two or three years - or is there no term settled for this job ? If it is supposed to be for a limited duration and then you get back home to your family and friends, that should help you to say "yes" . Unless of course you get yourself a cute Englishman before the end of the contract and decide to stay in England for good ... You are right about asking for an increase in salary because rents are crazy in London indeed (not that I know anything about rents in NZ for comparisons ) and you sure don't want to live in a dull suburb, do you ?

You are all so wise
There is no fixed term for the contract - there is some financial input into me getting there and if I leave within 24 months I need to pay a ratio back.
I will be based in Guildford which is about 1 hour out of London in Surrey .
I have spent time with Mum and Dad tonight going over it and have reread my original post ( good thinking) and I am excited but in the big scheme of things there are more pros than cons and family and friends can come to me !!!

WOW!! I hope they get back to you with a positive response.
Guildford is a really nice suburb town of London. We've been there several times as Clandon House has the Royal Surrey's museum and we donated several items to their museum, as my husband's uncles wee in those regiments.
I just read somewhere that it's listed as one of the best plaaces to live.

Megan, this is great! While I know it's probably scary as hell for you to think about, I believe you'll have strong regrets later if you don't do this. Remember, in the end, you'll only regret things you DIDN'T do. You're young, smart and strong. You will be great!

Remember, in the end, you'll only regret things you DIDN'T do. Happy is very right . You made the right decision . That doesn't mean that you must drop your request for a salary increase yet, but do not turn down the job if they don't give you the money . You didn't tell us : when does the contract say that you start the new job ?
