We are looking for a really good deal on a hotel with a 4 night stay, from 9th July 08 - 13th July 08. We found this one for £203 in total (wow!!!). LECOURBE 28 RUE LECOURBE 75015 PARIS FRANCE www.hotel-lecourbe-eiffel.com/sitegb.htm The area is close to where we normally stay (probably a 10 min walk away) just behind the Ecole Militaire. The hotel was refurbished in 2005, the decor is not Parisian, more minimalist but clean. The accommodation type is not the issue (merely a place to lay our heads) but we do like the area around the Champ de Mars. I would be grateful for any opinions and any other suggested hotels within the 7th/15th area.........as you can guess, we are on the hunt for another trip!

That is an EXCELLENT price. I do like that area, especially since it's so close to the Saxe-Breteuil market, a favorite stop for us.
I rather like the looks of the hotel, very clean and modern !

OK Andi...since it's YOU, we'll allow you to gloat over how relatively cheap it is for you to go to Paris compared to us Amurricans! ;D
I was wondering...how does the exchange rate for the pound compare to the dollar against the euro...meaning is it as expensive for you to pay in euros as it is for us?

The exchange rate is relatively ok for us at the moment, we are currently getting 1.42 euros to the pound. You poor dears in the USA are really suffering with the weak dollar. I don't remember a time when the exchange rate was ever this high?

Go to your room and hang your head in shame for taunting us poor Amurricans!
Really though, I'm so happy you are able to do this on a whim!!!!

That's a great rate, Andi! I remember that area, having passed quite a few times on the metro (it's one of the raised metro lines so you can see out, for those not familiar with it). It was either the Sevres-Lacourbe stop or Cambronne that I thought would be fun to hop off and take a walk around sometime...but "sometime" never happened. At any rate, it does seem like a nice neighborhood as you pass thru. I'm excited that you get to plan another trip!

Every time I hear my fellow Americans bemoaning the weak dollar, I try to cheer them up by telling them about our lousy shekel. 1 euro = 5.58 Israeli shekels Appreciate your dollar!!!

Gitte - Please share with us what's supposed to be so special about this cute little non-churchy looking church. Do they always have paintings (like the ones that I see in the website) on display there? Sorry......I'm not good at understanding French websites.

Well folks, after doing my research, I am 99% certain that I will be booking this hotel within the next few days and will finally be able to put "Andiandgaz - In Paris" in July........I forgot to mention that there was an offer on the hotel, 4 nights for the price of 3. We normally go for 3 nights, so this trip will have a one day extension AND we are going on our own this time so it will be extra special. On the To-Do list this time will be.........
Le Marais area - not seen it yet
1st level Eiffel tower - Gaz has promised me faithfully that he will do it this time.
A "Meet the French" experience - don't know which one yet?
Lots of cafe culture - no rushing around!
One popular restaurant - don't know which yet?
Find Berthillon - feet were too tired to continue last time.
Visit the Saxe-Breteuil market - looks stunning and delightful with an excellent view.
Ideas and suggestions warmly welcomed, this trip is to relax and not feel too much like a tourist.

Andi, that is a great deal!
And if there was a trip to the tattoo parlour as part of the Meet the French program, I wonder what type of souvenir they might hand out at the end - lol.

Oh I am convince of that Gitte ! I even "feel" that I must have been part of Mme de Sévigné household. That is the only way I can explain my feeling about that place.

I agree Gitte and Tru (and the rest of you! , How I can feel so completely at home..and at peace, one with the World...???in a place where I barely speak the language and is so far from home....And I'm talking from the 2nd trip..not just now when I've been there often. And once the final click on the credit card payment on the flight is made..its involuntary...the YES!! arms in the air, leaping with joy!! When I used to book it at work I'd have to close my office door!
