Sounds wonderful , and I can be jealous without you feeling bad!
We haven't even left on our London trip next month and I've spent the whole day planning on our fall Paris and Dordogne trip.

Hey, Andi! Look at those beautiful roses that Gitte has added to her above post. Oo-la-la! They're such a perfect image for expressing one's sentiment regarding Paris.

Well here's the thing......I am sort of torn because we really want to relax and feel like we are locals, rather than the mad tourist who must see everything. At the same time I don't want to miss the opportunity to catch all the new things that we haven't seen yet. (does that make sense?) We have seen all the major sites, it will be more the areas that we want to explore this time. The Marais, St Germaine Du Pres (sp?) Montparnais and Jardin De Luxembourg. One thing on the list is to sit on the Champ De Mars in the evening with a picnic and wine, Gaz is wondering whether to take his guitar along? Aside from eating out in the evening, we just love doing this!. The weather should be really warm in July and many many locals add to the great atmosphere there. Apart from the above, we will have to have a think about other things, thats what you are all here for (tee hee) AND it will help keep my mind busy until we finally get there.

Well, if gaz does take his guitar to the CdM to serenade you, make sure he leaves his guitar case open in case any passersby want to donate to the Andiandgaz Paris Trip Fund ;D

I have started our research and planning of course and am thinking that this time we will buy a carnet of tickets each to get around. Normally we purchase a Paris Visite from our travel agent upon booking, but this time we have cut out the middle man. On arriving at the Gare Du Nord, we are planning on using the metro to get to the hotel, just to be different, only a small suitcase so not much to hump around.....line 4 direction Porte d'Orleans to Odean then line 10 direction Boulogne Pont De St Cloud to Segur. Will someone please confirm that this is correct for me? (just to make sure) and when I ask for the carnet, do I simply say deux carnet SLVP? or something different? For some peculiar reason I am worried more about speaking the correct French this time??? Told you it wouldn't be long before I was asking LOL

I don't know how much you use the metro and buses but 2 carnets for 2 people is only 10 rides. I'd buy 2 Navigo decouverte for the week . They'd be good for unlimited rides Tuesday thru Sunday. 2 of those wouldn't cost much more than 3 carnets. I'll check the prices for you.
The carnets are €11.10/ 10 rides
Navigo decouverte -€16.30 plus a one time €5.00 = €21.30 per person , unlimited travel.
and since you put out €5 to buy it , it's a perfect excuse to have to return to Paris to get your money's worth out of it.
I wish Paris had the Oyster card system where you can just load money on the card and use it any day of the week.

Andi, your metro itinerary is fine, according to my map . Actually, there are several possible itineraries from gare du Nord to your hotel, especially since your hotel is located close to three metro lines (something which will be very convenient for your travelling around Paris), but your itinerary is about the quickest one I guess . One maybe stupid question : I read that you will leave on July 13 . Wouldn't it be possible for you to stay just another day in order to enjoy the July 14th festivities ? You could roam the July 13 night bals de quartiers and then attend the 14th défilé militaire on the Champs Elysées ...

Thanks all for the tips and pointers, at this point I have to apologize for not getting in on all the other threads. I don't want to appear selfish but I am so busy trying to read everything in preparation for our trip, the Marais thread is really useful to us at the moment as we are planning to go there, Place des Vosges L'FA, Carnavelet etc. A carnet of tickets each may be enough at this stage as alot of our planning involves walking (so far) usually we purchase the Paris Visite (we were considering the carte orange). Does anyone have any input on Promenade Plantee for us? This looks a delightful place to explore and may make it onto our list. There are just so many places to choose from at the moment! After all we have only got 5 months of planning left LOL

Thank you Annette, I really thought that I knew all the different threads on the forum but it has grown so large now that things are difficult to remember. I guess the search function now needs to come into play? I remember seeing those amazing pictures from Catherine and your report, thanks for the reminder. ;D

Andi - I was wondering how you enjoyed your stay at that hotel?
My boyfriend and I travelled to Paris over New Years for a week and have decided to return in September. We are flying into Madrid and touring Madrid, Seville, Cordova and Avila then flying to Paris for the last 2 days of our trip before coming home. We stayed in a budget hotel in the Marais last time and want a change of scenery in a hotel for a good deal this time.
Thanks!
