Oh my goodness! That's quite a bossy Dane we have on this forum! I feel like I've just attended a first class of a university course, in which the professor has outlined all of his/her very demanding requirements for the entire semester. You know, the feeling you get when you walk out telling yourself that you're going to fail that course and you'd better switch majors. Seriously though, Gitte, we should all count our blessings for having you on the forum. Incidentally, are all Danes as nice as you?

I think it's fantastic! Gives us different ways of looking at Paris and we can pick and choose what we like - what a great post! Thank you Now I just need to find the time to stop reading my university text books and start on secret gems and delights!!!!

I agree Gitte..when I first fell firmly in love with Paris and France in 1993 I began reading everything I could get my hands on having to do with both! I subscribed to both Paris Notes and France Today(paper versions) and still do. Now with all the resources on the internet.......and here...the info is endless!!! And reading these things is a joy! A big fat book called Citizens about the revolution came out in1989...I got it as soon as it came out in paperback! Friends and relations started giving me as gifts books on Paris and France as well as other French themed gifts! They are hesitant now about the books because unless it is very new they assume I already have it....I did get duplicates a few times! Unfortunately the French lessons did not go so well! Oh and Shoesy....I was only to Denmark once back in 1988..a great trip and really lovely people! The first 4 we met in the train compartment on our way from Amsterdam to Copenhagen..4 men coming from a long weekend in Paris! They shared their food, wine , and insisted on seeing our guidebooks for Denmark and marking them for us....must sees, only if you have time, prices, good restaurants, etc.!

Gitte, I looked for Rodolphe Trouilleux "Paris Secret et Insolite" on Amazon when you mentioned it a few months ago and found it, but the price was $34 for the 1996 edition and $43 for the 2003 edition! I thought it was a misprint so checked again today and the prices are the same. Trop chère! I have Vallois' books and Paris au Calme which I really like, and I too spend hours, when I should be doing laundry etc., researching Paris. It's my favorite past time, as I'm sure it's everyone's here. Some of my favorite books are: An Hour From Paris by Annabel Simms Little Known Museums In and Around Paris by Rachel Kaplan Walking Paris by Gilles Desmons Paris by the Numbers by Kathleen Goodman Perhaps others will list their favorite Paris books? Of course we'll have overlaps, but we'll also probably discover several gems that we didn't know about. Thanks for starting this thread. Do you think we need a new section for guide books, maps, novels, movies, documentaries, websites, etc.? I think it would be good to have all of this reference information in one place. Just a thought.

Excellent. I love hearing of Paris books and that is something I indulge in (a bit) during my all too frequent not-in- Paris days! ha! Yes, indeed, I have the "Seven Ages of Paris" and the lovely little but so picturesque book , "Quiet Corners of Paris" by Jean-Christophe Napias/photos by Lefebure. I don't have Thirza Vallois "Around and About Paris" vol. I-III (obviously now a need) and neither do I have "Paris Secret et Insolite" (and I wonder if I was likewise stymied by the price or if it might just be cheaper to purchase at Amazon.fr ). I did pick up "Paris et se Passages Couverts" awhile back per a certain gentle Dane's suggestion in an earlier thread. However, I see that it is actually "Paris Secret et Insolite" that this certain Dane puts under her pillow!

I was given Seven Ages of Paris yesterday for my birthday, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. My friends know what I like.

Truffy - You should know by now that you have a magic calendar, which is apparently different from ours. Furthermore, Darcy's birthday did not show up in a "birthday today" announcement at the bottom of the page.

Well, I doesn't show on MY calendar, and obviously on other ones' either since no one saw it . And there was no announcement at the bottom of the home page as there usually is . Edit : we had the same thoughts at the same time, Chouchou !

Anne & Shoesy, it has nothing to do with a specific setting that I've created. In each user profile, there is the option to make your birthday (and age) public or to keep it private. If it's kept private, then only I can see it. If it's public, everybody can see it. The choice is up to each individual user. Unfortunately, there's no way to only show the birth date, but not the user's age.

Yes the same thing came up with my B'day....I had PMed Tru about the September calendar because my trip and B'day were not on. He said B'day was, I said no, back and forth.....each convinced the other was bats...then he , of course, figured it out!!! ;D

Oh dear, oh dear! I'm sorry if I created all this hullaballoo. I guess now I have to admit to celebrating the 30th anniversary of my 32nd birthday! ;D Thanks for the good wishes!

Happy birthday Darcy.. You know it is funny, when you don't see or meet posters, I for one, have decided that most of you are my age, so I am surprised sometimes when I find out that some are in fact older then me,, you all seem to be " just about right" to me,, In fact the only poster here that I think is younger is Willow, and thats only because she told us ,, LOL Darcy , enjoy your birthday!
