The 30th anniversary of your 32nd birthday.........that's a nice way of putting it, Darcy. Hmmm.......you are 10 days younger than my hubby.

This thread has gone off-topic, but happy anniversary from me too Darcy!
Joan, for me it's even harder to imagine everyone's faces, except for those who have posted their pictures, so I decided that they are like their avatars! So for me you are a chicken, Darcy is a statue, etc.
What a shock (a pleasant shock!) was seeing Gitte's real face the other day! For me she was Mae West, and I think she will always be.

Mimi, your book budget must be bigger than mine. I found it on Amazon too, but it was $43.40! I am now determined to have this book, so will look for it in Paris.

Charles Boyer narrated a film about the Louvre that dates back to the 60's, but IMHO is still one of the greatest little pieces of information ever produced. Whether you've been 20 times, or you're still waiting for the first, if you love the Louvre, this gem is an absolute must. It will show a pretty ugly Louvre, covered with grit and grime in the days before the Pyramid and the subsequent sandblasting that restored her exterior, but it is especially nostalgic for those of us who had the great fortune to travel to Paris 20-30+ years ago. It is sometimes a little sad for me to watch, because I miss that dirty, smoky, polluted Paris so much...when Parisians looked like Parisian. Don't get me wrong, I love Paris today, but I'm a sentimental fool, and this movie reminds me of a Paris that was. But mostly it's just a love story about the Louvre...(caution: READ Louvre...not "the museum"), so if you want to watch a love story about a building, pay the 20 bucks and get a copy, because you won't regret a minute of it. www.amazon.com/Jarvis-Collection-Louvre-Charles-Boyer/dp/630118212X

That's the answer then...if it didn't show up on the calendar here, the birthday doesn't count, Darcy. Carry on...

Did I miss a birthday? I'm sorry Darcy, it is late but it's better late than never. Bonne Anniversaire! If I didn't want to know a lot about Paris, I would have completely missed it. Hope you had a day that was as happy as can be!!!!!

Sandra, (forehead hitting palm of hand emoticon here!), I should have thought about netflix, they have everything!
Oh well, it's one I would want to own anyway, but I must remember to check netflix first. Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you for the link Gitte . I like the "collines et villages ..." hike because these are areas that I have never visited (except for Montmartre of course) , and I have already printed things that you wrote about villages in the 19th and 20th arr . They write that this hike can be made in one day (24kms) . Sure, we all walk a lot while in Paris, but 24kms is a little more than "a lot", especially when the hike is called " hills and villages ..." . Although I can't help picturing you doing it in one day indeed, starting at dawn with rucksac, walking stick and Eccos of course ;D ...

Gitte, I must tell you that I enjoy your picture MUCH better than the mother earth ship that always made my stomach a little queasy. Thanks for changing it. sb
