The guide books mention certain stores for items like pet supplies, paper and school supplies, kitchen items, toys...
I think it will be fun to find different items that we can't find at home.
Have you found any great stores that you would recommend as being worth a trip?
Thanks!

Just received via Amazon, The Paris Shopping Companion by Susan Winkler. It has some good descriptions and is organized well. Mentions all the places on Ile St. Louis that I liked and shopped at last June for gifts and for me.

Oh no, I know my next stop will be Amazon for another travel book! My Paris library will soon cost more than my trip

;D
It is already getting annotated and will be in my suitcase. Now I just need to find activities to keep hubby occupied while I shop. he really understand buying, typical man--but not shopping which means to exhaust the available shops and ones own self prior to buying anything.

Sarastro - I love your list ! I exalted you for it right away ! I shall visit that boutique in Paris with the automates, it looks so cute ! Shoesy - you would love that too. Take a look ! Let me add another men's paradise - BHV in Rue de Rivoli/Rue du Temple (across from Hotel de Ville) www.bhv.fr/

Sarastro--thanks for the links! I was very suprised :oto see that automates wasn't a car parts store!
Loved the look of the kitchen store; that's just what I'm looking for.
I'm afraid that I can't send my husband to the French version of Home Depot. Every time he goes to the American version, he's gone for hours. He'd miss the entire trip!

Sarastro,
Thanks so much. I love the music boxes and note that there are some with cats! Also intrigue by two of the perfune places. there was an address for pnicola in paris that I will try to visit. Could not find one for maitre on their website, or at least, not one that would open. Too bad as I adore gloves, too, and would have liked to see their selection.
Husband loves kitchen gadgets so he will be checking that one out.

I simply ADORE music boxes. I've always loved them. In fact, I've often thought that a music box is one of the most romantic gifts a man could give a woman. I've never told that to my hubby because then he would just go out and buy me one, and it wouldn't be the same if he didn't think of it on his own.

Sometimes husbands do need some subtle or even not so subtle guidance. My husband asks for lists that are very specific. I think it is that he doesn't like to shop and prefers to know what to buy.
I get all the gifts for children, grandchildren an when his mother was alive, for her as well.

The hardware store in the basement of the BHV is one of my favorite shops in Paris, and I am a girl!!!!! I also love Deyrolle, where you can purchase a stuffed elephant, a mounted scorpion ad glass eyes. I treasure trove awaits......

Here's where I love to shop in Paris:
E. Dehillerin kitchen store with its creaky wooden floors and nice gentlemen who help the customers. (the link is in the list above). Over the years I've bought crepe pans, wooden spoons, cookie cutters, tart pans and other kitchen gadgets. I love the cheap little plastic pastry scrapers that are printed with "E. Dehillerin" with the address -- great for small gifts, and reminds me of Paris whenever I use it.
La Tuile a Loup -- a tiny shop near the Censier-Daubenton Metro stop which carries hand made wares from all over France. Gorgeous pottery pitchers, bowls, trays, platters, quiche pans, mugs, etc., and pretty placemats and linens, too. They also have santons for those who collect them.
Les Olivades in St. Germain des Pres for tablecloths and placemats. I've also bought their quilted cosmetic bags as gifts for teenage girls.
Bon Marche. I can't help it. I love their purses. Also their scarves. I sometimes go upstairs to their towel department and buy soaps and French washcloths (sewn like mitts) that I take bring back as gifts.
Monoprix -- There's always something I fall for. I've bought ruled notebooks, gift tags, Roger Gallet lotions, other cosmetics, and an occasional purse or scarf. I love to wander through the grocery store and usually pick up some cookies or crackers I haven't tried, along with mustard, sea salt, sugar packed in little paper tubes, jams, etc.
I'll add more if anyone's interested!
