Hi Mary, Thanks for this list - how was the food at the L'Hotel du Nord?? I was in the area around lunch time and was tempted but it was pretty busy (a good sign) and I think I was the only American in the place (another good sign) just wondering what you thought. Dawn, here's my cafe/resto list for the 10eme. I didn't go to Le Chansonnier but it looked like a good bistro. L’Hôtel du Nord - 102 Quai de Jemmapes Chez Prune - 71 Quai de Valmy/36 rue Beaurepaire L'Atmosphère - 49 Rue Lucien-Sampaix Le Chansonnier - 14 rue Eugene Varlin 42 09 40 58 La Marine - 55 bis Quai de Valmy Pink Flamingo - 67 rue Bichat (inventive pizzas) Point Ephémère - 200 Quai de Valmy (jazz bar; 7/7) Mary

Hi Sandy, I didn't eat at Hotel du Nord -- just had coffee at the bar and read my book. It was just before noon and the food wasn't coming out yet, but the atmosphere is kinda fun if a bit quirky. There was a young guy who came in with a top hat and tails and was sort of pestering me but the bartender ran interference and I never felt the least bit threatened, just a little annoyed. I wouldn't mind trying it for a simple lunch someday since I like hanging out in that area. Mary

Dawn, this phrase on my profile (to the left) is from a grafitti tag on a wall right near your apartment. I just love the message! If you find it, I'll buy you a glass of champagne. Mary

Thanks, Mary - I liked the atmosphere too - wished after I had left that I had tried it for lunch. Hopefully in May I can get that done - it's on my list!

[glow=red,2,300]"Fais que ton rêve soit plus long que la nuit"
"Make your dream last longer than the night"[/glow]
OK, I am going to nitpick here: I would translate the phase with "be" in place of "last." ("Make your dream be longer than the night.") Slightly different meaning to me although one could use "dure" for "last" and it would also be quite nice. Mary

Looked to see if I could find a recording of it but it is very rare and I probably couldn't afford it. Thought it might be available for down loading , at least parts of it. I always liked Vangelis's Chariots of fire

Well, whichever it is, may all of our dreams last and/or be longer than the night...especially my recurring "Sistereurope buys an apartment in Paris" dream ;D

Well, I didn't find the graffiti that Mary mentioned...I guess I don't win the prize. But, I sure did win the prize of having a lovely place to stay. I hesitate to recommend this apartment because I want to stay in it again and again (and it's already booked for Oct). But I loved it. And the owner was super nice to deal with. The only downside is that it's on the 3rd French floor and no elevator. Those windy steps were a bit difficult to handle with my stuffed suitcase. But the view of the canal was worth it for sure. Again, here's the link to MY apartment ;D www.vrbo.com/global/siteFrame.aspx?l=194850&k=1
