:)This apartment is not that far from where I have just stayed on Rue Faubourg du Temple although I didn't get up that way,... the other side of canal St Martin.
I don't think you can go wrong if it is only 100 metres from the metro........one stop from Republique which is the gateway to Paris.....and it has got an armchair as well as a bed. 25 sq metres is plenty of space for a solo .
It looks very nice, very modern, although I find the modern type pictures a bit frustrating. I like to SEE the whole place properly....... It is just a bit of a leap of faith if you haven't got a personal experience of someone you know.

will keep you posted! It does look decent for the money, and I've been in that area before. Not touristy pretty, but that suits me just fine ;D

The only thing that sticks out to me is there appears to be a lack of windows.
The 3 sides where the bed is show no windows, neither does the bathroon or kitchen.
Could be a bit gloomy...

What you can see looks fine. Problem is not being able to see the whole set up.
I seem to recall several other rather inexpensive apartments on this thread that people from OPF have stayed at.
Since you will be on your own, you want to be sure that your "home" is really what will suit you.

Hmmm......The lack of windows would definitely depress me.

There is a writeup by Gitte from September 2008 on a studio on Caulincourt which she saw and stayed in that looks fabulous. You may want to look at it or message Gitte for information. It has a balcony, seems really bright and also a washer/dryer.

Well, no word still from the owners of either of the apartments I posted links to (I think that they both had windows, at least the second one in the 10th did). Darn! I've decided that I really want to stay in the 10th, 11th or perhaps the 12th - either near Republique and the canal or down by the Bastille...somewhere near there. Or near Oberkampf/Menilmomtant. Back to the cheap budget apartment drawing board!!! I do find this time consuming obsession fun though, so I am NOT complaining!!!! ;D

It's great Jody, and I would love it for me and Jim (hey! Wait, we'll be there in Oct too! ;D), but I'm trying to keep my solo trip as cheap as possible. Thanks for thinking of me though!! VIP doesn't have an studios in the areas where I want to stay. the hunt continues!

Well, I think I have decided on this one: www.vrbo.com/global/siteFrame.aspx?l=194850&k=1Found it on VRBO. I inquired with the owner and discovered it's available for the week I want, but I decided that it was too expensive for just me, so I wrote back and declined, and said that I might consider it in October when I return with my husband. The owner (who seems great so far) wrote back and said that they like to have return clients, so as long as I am serious about possibly renting it again in Oct (of course, that all depends on my experience in May - I don't have to reserve now), they agreed to offer me a long term nightly rate for May. Which was an offer I just couldn't refuse, as I loved this apartment from the beginning!! ;D OOH, I can't wait to wake up and look out the window at the canal!!! Yipeee!! ;D I will be sure to keep you posted.

Very nice view ! I really hope you like it, especially for selfish reasons because I don't want to see a grumpy Sis when I meet you in May. ;D

I checked out the location...it's more towards the northern end of the Quai de Valmy, kind of between several metro stops. It will be fine, especially for May. And it looks like there's a nice bistro next door. Shoesy...I am NEVER grumpy in Paris...and even if I were, seeing you in person would cheer me up. ;D

Thanks for the info Mary! I've been in the Canal St. Martin area around Republique (have been to La Marine), but I never made it north. Chez Prune is on the list for a drink!! I am excited to be staying on the canal in May...it should be lovely. Oh My, I feel so fortunate to be going to Paris again!!! Makes all this work and my 3 hour daily commute more worth it! ;D
