Can somebody click on the "Chat" icon at the top of their screen (where there are also icons for "Home", "Help", "Search", etc.) and try logging in to the live chat feature using your forum name. I can't get it to work, but maybe it's because of the security settings on my work computer. Let me know if it works. Thanks, Truffaut.

I can't either...but I'm at work too and a lot of things are blocked here. I guess I understand why, although I manage to goof off AND get all of my work done, thanks very much!

It seems to work fine, although I was a bit lonely. I'm more of a reader than a chatter, anyhow.

Well, the idea is to have one chatroom or the other, but not both. I was just thinking that a chatroom built into the forum might be more popular. I was able to access it from my home computer, but not from work. That's a major problem, since many of us visit the site while we're goofing off at work!

Please explain exactly what we're supposed to see when we click on that "chat" icon. Be specific. Everything looks a bit foreign to me, and that's not because I'm in Israel.

Clicking on the "Chat" button should open another window on your screen. If you wait a few seconds a login screen will appear. You type in your user name and it opens the chat screen that's very similar to the one we were using yesterday. You can do all this without having to go back to the blog homepage to access the chatroom.
I don't want to have two different chatrooms, but I'm trying to figure out which one works better for users.

I tried it again, and none of the above happened. Maybe somebody doesn't like me.

Hi people, it may be because you do not have the updated version of java installed on you PC here is the link to download it, just follow the instructions on how to download and install it. java.com/en/download/index.jsp

I tried downloaded that Java thing, which was the first thing I've ever tried to download. I encountered an "error" accompanied by a bunch of instructions, which I had no intentions of following, so I'll just have to wait for someone else to do it for me..........someone who isn't as afraid of the computer as I am.

Truffaut - I can get it to work, but what should be the great advantage ? Opening the new chatroom still takes you away from the forum, if you do not choose to open another window with the forum. So the result is the same, you cannot both be in the chatroom and follow the debate on a forum-thread on the same screen. So to me, you may choose which one you like. Or maybe I have misunderstood something

..... but of course the new chatroom is more modern, with smileys and sounds and what have you.

Shoesy, You remind me of me! I'm afraid to do just about anything on a computer. I am just about rolling on the floor right now. Everyone here sounds so darn computer savy (not just computer). So, thanks for giving me a good laugh. By the way, I wouldn't have touched it either...........

By the way, I just tried it and I had no problems with it......it came up almost right away.

Hi susanb ! I have to wait 'till tomorrow to ask my son to download that Java thing. (He comes over every Friday. ) I'm so glad I'm not the only one on the forum who's a bit intimidated by computers. Don't laugh, but only recently I learned how to "copy and paste".

Truffaut - I suggest you simply close down one of the chatrooms. It becomes too confusing if there are two rooms open at the same time. After having tried again I prefer the old chatroom-solution, because that on doesn't close down your forum. The "new" chatroom closes down the forum, so you'll have to open the forum in another windom. Plus - the new forum takes up all the space of the screen, so you cannot have your eye on the forum at the same time. You'll have to switch over.

I wish there were some kind of bell that would ring when someone entered the chatroom........or better yet, a different sounding bell for each poster. Go figure that out, all you computer experts.

Hi Shoesy, back in the "old days" when I think there were three of us (Truffaut, Luc and me) as members, Luc and I were like ships in the night every day with the chat room thing. We thought the same thing, that it would be good if a bell would ring if someone entered the chat room. And just so you and susanb don't feel too awfully bad, I don't even know how to cut and paste. I have no patience for all of it...
