www.vrbo.com/166715This one looks very nice, right on Place Des Voges with 2 full bedrooms and a bathtub! 1200 euros/week. Jo I rented a studio for Olivier, the owner of this property and had a good experience. No complaints at all. Sandy and Buterflyfree have also rented from him. Here is a list of all his rentals. www.vrbo.com/my/151220I am planning to rent from him again in February or March. Denise Love from England

Denise, thanks for posting the link to Olivier's apartments. It's a great resource for future apartment searches. I don't anticipate the same level of service from Olivier as you got, of course....unless I can charm him the way you did

How are you finding apartment ownership in Paris? Is it what you thought it would be? Things are going pretty well, Mez! It has been an "educational" experience We've had a few renovation projects on the building since we've purchased. Some of our neighbors are unhappy with our syndic and are trying to oust them. I receive regular correspondence of one sort or another in French and I'm getting better at reading it!!! It's probably a little different than what we thought it would be, but the challenge has been fun for the most part. As for the rental side, we haven't had any problems at all. We've had quite a few guests so far (bookings are settling in about 85% occupancy) and the feedback has all been very positive. I'm so glad we have the guys at Guest Apartments to manage it for us--they really do go above and beyond and take care of a lot of little things for us that would be difficult to arrange long-distance. They've been keeping the place in brand new condition and take a lot of care to keep it up. If something even as small as a glass breaks, they replace it (with matching stuff so we're not ending up with a mish-mash of odds and ends ). Paying the extra management fees have been worth it. We're hoping that this year the apartment starts paying for itself or we at least break even! LOL Not so sure tho, because next up for vote in May is a new elevator, then paint and new flooring in all the common areas. But they will be nice improvements so I'm not complaining. It has been a good investment--no regrets. And of course the best part is having a beautiful place to stay while we're in Paris -- so we get to go more often and I don't have to go thru the endless apartment hunt before each trip! LOL

Happy is referring to the fact that Olivier was in no hurry to take my payment and security deposit and said he would call around the next day to collect. For Sandy, on the other hand, who was also renting one of his studios, he said he wanted the money straight away! Sandy and Happygoin interpreted this as I had some sort of charm for him..... I think he was just in a hurry and didn't want to stay while I inspected the apartment and ferreted for the money. Denise Love from England

Gosh, it would be worth it just to avoid the apartment search each trip! Ain't that the truth! Annette, I am surprised at the high occupancy rate - well it seems that way to me. Given this is one of the unknowns when you first start renting your place out, I am sure it must be of comfort to you that there is demand. In your shoes, I would also be paying higher management fees for great service. You really need to trust the people in Paris to look after your place. And I think personally I would cry if something happened to your place - it's just delightful.

Aw, thanks Mez. Yes, the nice occupancy rate our first year was a surprise for us, too (something I attribute to listing with GAS, and also doing our own additional advertising on VRBO). Denise, is there something more you need to tell us about?! LOL

Dear Annette, I am so glad your apartment is working out. I would imagine , although it must be wonderful to own an apartment in Paris, it is not without it's worries and you seem to have found a very trustworthy service in GAS. Sorry Cigalchanta. I leave on the 22nd. As regards any other rumours about me, I am keeping a dignified silence! Denise Love from England

Well...you can keep your "dignified silence" all you like, Denise. All I know is that you were "off by yourself" an awful lot this trip
