This English bookstore I went to a couple times this year....(kept walking by it, so it seems!):
The Red Wheelbarrow Bookstore Address: 22, rue Saint-Paul, 75004 PARIS Phone & fax: 01 48 04 75 08 Métro: Sully-Morland (line 7), St-Paul (line 1). E-mail: good.reading@wanadoo.fr (or) red.wheelbarrow@wanadoo.fr Proprietor: Penelope Le Masson; Assistant: Abigail Altman. Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Recently under new management, this general literary English bookstore includes a large children's section. It also hosts some wonderful readings from international writers and poets.
Oh, the above info I got from a list..that I see is already referenced above!

cybee~ I will definitely try that one as I am staying in the 4th. Actually, I will email them and see if they have it. If not, maybe they can recommend a store that does. Thanks for the info!

Brentano's on avenue de l'Opéra closed forever recently. That's a shame because I preferred it to W.H. Smith -- but I get most of my English books anyway from FNAC or Virgin Megastore, and if they don't have them, I get them from Amazon.

I just got Unexplored Paris from Amazon. It's a slightly used book in great condition for $26.00. It must be my lucky day ;D I thumbed through it and can't wait to really get into it. Thanks Gitte

Lucky You! Did you get the English or French version? Did you get it from Amazon.com or Amazon.fr? Enjoy!

It was the English version from Amazon.Com. It was used and the only one they had listed at that price.

Wow!! You were in the right place at the right time!!
You wouldn't want to copy it a dozen times and send it to all of us who would dearly love to have it, would you? ;D

As much as I like my new friends on OPF I don't think I'm ready to break the copyright laws and go to jail for you all Besides, with the price of color copies it would cost about $80 per book to make copies Sorry

;D I am monitoring Amazon daily but currently only remaining copies are very expensive. Also some of them are the 1997 edition with only a few the 2003 edition. The least expensive of these--over $60 is in Great Britain so shipping would be high. Will let people know if any more reasonable copies appear.
My guess is that a new English language edition will come out within the next year as it seems that they do this every six years or so. If not, I will wait and get a copy in Paris in 2010.

I was thinking the same thing, holger, that a new English version will probably be out within a year. Jazzcat - you know I was just kidding, I hope!

Thanks. But this is the 2009 French Edition, not the English.

WOW!!! i CHECKED AMAZON, THEY ARE ASKING sorry keys stick. over $100, It is not worth it. Only because so many ask for it does the price go up. i'd be willing to swap mine for Cabinet of curiosities by Mauries. Out of print and some asking rediculous prices.

Guys~ I emailed the Red Wheelbarrow book store in the 4th and they have put one aside for me for end of Sept. It is 19 Euros. That is roughly $27.00. CDN so, I'll take it. Now I have to find my way there. It's near the St. Paul area I believe. Email different book stores before you go and they will hold it for you. $60 -$100.00 is crazy !!

I agree re not paying silly amounts for a book of this type but in general ordering from Amazon.uk is not all that bad for shipping and my recollection is that if you are signed up for the annual charge for expedited shipping that also carries over to sister sites.

Today, I walked over to The Red Wheelbarrow Book Store on Rue Saint-Paul in the Marais from our apartment to pick up the book "Unexplored Paris" that I reserved by email. 19 E. What a great store. I will enjoy looking at this book tomorrow morning with my cafe creme and croissant. It was a pleasure to meet the owner, a sweet lady whose name escapes me at the moment. Anyway, she found out I was from Vancouver, BC and she told me that she grew up on "Hornby Island" which is a small island off the coast of Vancouver Island in the Straight of Georgia (Pacific) which separates the mainland from Vancouver Island. Well, I lived on another island called Bowen Island which is just off the mainland of Vancouver in the Straight. Hornby is situated just NW of Bowen - we were neighbours! It is indeed a small and interesting world. Great store if you are in the area. PS - Mom and I are really enjoying Paris. Still one week left! Leslie
