Geordy - drove all the way to Croydon yesterday and nothing happening - will hit Portsmouth this week
I think my accent is here to stay - I do pick up the Aussie accent quite quickly tho and if I went to Australia for a long period of time I am sure it would change. I actually heard a NZer talking on the tv last night and really picked up on the eeeee there. She said expect and it sounded just like ixpict. Funny how being away from home even for a short period you can suddenly hear 'your' accent
I am settled into my flat - phone and internet will be on in the next 3 weeks - nothing happens fast here. I am really happy there - just waiting for the bulk of my clothes and a few home comforts to arrive as well. They are coming seafreight and seem to be on the long way round !
The flat is in a great location - mins from everywhere I would need fof the day to day basics , and a 2 min stroll and I can amble along the Basingstoke canal. The weather has been glorious the last three days with all the excitement of the OPF weekend, and all the other trips planned I am confident that I have made the right decision.
Now that I am settled we need to put all our thoughts into how Sunshine is getting in her new adventure in our beloved Paris

That's such wonderful news. It sounds like a very pleasant place to be. Megan - You were adventurous and daring, and you took a giant step. You obviously made the right decision. This is going to be a truly worthwhile experience for you.

Glad you are settled in your new abode. Hopefully your freight will arrive soon and you can be done with the household chores for a bit.
We'll have to get together with Chic when we come to London in the spring.

Megan, It is good to hear you are settling in nicely. I had to laugh about everyone commenting on your NZ accent. Everyone here who watches HBO is up on it, as there is a show called "Flight of the Choncords" about two NZ musicians and their manager, trying to make it in NYC.

Hello Megan,, so sorry I just found this thread( I have no idea how I missed it, I tend to pop in and out too quickly I imagine) ,, but I was excited to read along the first 5 pages and follow your adventures and mishaps with the " big change" ..
I am so thrilled we get to follow along with this great adventure,, and yes, like many I wish that perhaps I had done something so interesting,, years ago,, but, never mind that, I will just make up for that lack of adventure in my young life by being an eccentric old lady ,, tripping off to Paris to meet strangers for a drink,, hopefully next Sept.
I think the apartment looks lovely, sunny and bright,, most important for keeping spirits up I always think.
As for your accent.. I believe that one keeps their birth accent till death,, it may soften a bit, but it never goes away,, my dad still has his french accent, even though he has lived in Canada since he was about 28, and his wife( second) my step mom, is from New Zealand, but has lived here for last 30 years and still has her accent( but it is soft and lovely really!).
Accents are very sexy Megan,, so now you are living somewhere where your voice will attract men like bees to honey,, LOL ,
I am so impressed with your bravery,, driving on the left and all( or do they drive on the left in NZ anyways?) .

HI Joan1
We drive on the left in NZ too - so lucky with that one as I cannot for the life of me drive on the right. I did try once as we drove from Connecticut to Maine - it was not good for my nerves or for those others on the road

Megan...maybe tha's the problem....driving on the "wrong" side! ;D Keep driving though! Like I said at lunch...it is truly amazing how we sign on to ask a question or just read about Paris....and wind up making lots of very good friends...and not just "virtually"
