Thanks, Annette - I didn't read your post until after I had responded to Becky's - as I said before, it wasn't a very pleasant experience but I'll get things replaced and move on - but, no more things left in the trunk!! The policewoman who took my report wasn't surprised at all about the incident so I guess it happens frequently!
PS to Becky - my misfortune will definitely not keep me from returning to SF - it's probably my next favorite city after Paris so I will be back!

I'm running really late this morning but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for a most enjoyable weekend.
My sister and Becky and I had a blast taking the public transports to several major sights in SF. We ended up at the baseball game Saturday night and could not beleive the beauty of that ball park. Only stayed one inning. Got our bobble heads and left. LOL
Loved the farmer's market at the Ferry building on Saturday morning.
We had a good dinner at a french place called Le Press. Went back for breakfast on Sunday morning before taking Bart to the airport. Wish we had Bart in LA.
I agree that this is a good idea for a yearly get together. Those of you who do not live in Ca should try to join us. SF is a great city. I have lived in Ca for most of my life and yet this was my first visit to SF.
Sandy I too am stunned by your luggage being stolen. We have been warned to always get cars with trunks rather than hatchbacks because trunks are supposedly safer. So much fo that myth. That is really a shame. Where were you parked when the theft happened?
Gotta Run.

Hi Suzanne,
I was going to send an e-mail to you so will do it here. I'm so glad that you and Becky enjoyed your SF visit - good to see you again and nice to meet Becky. Will look forward to next year's gathering.
I was parked right at Battery and Embarcadero, near Pier 23 - we had lunch at the Fog City Diner which is right off the Embarcadero on Battery. There is a nice little park right there with a bunch of trees along the sidewalk which I am thinking that the thieves hide out in the park waiting for someone to park and then make their hit! It's a shame that our things aren't even safe in the trunk anymore!

This is a prime example of the way we sometimes spend alot of time worrying about keeping our pocessions safe while in Paris. Goes to show you it can happen anywhere.
How did they break into the trunk?

Suzanne,
That's a good question ,which I asked the police because I did not see any visible evidence of breaking the lock - her reply was "they have keys and can get into anything or anywhere they want" Not very comforting is it!

I'm off this afternoon to start replacing my lost articles! Reading the morning paper really put things in perspective for me - there was an article about several of the thousands of people who lost their homes and businesses, and everything in them, in the terrible flooding we had in Iowa this summer. Makes my loss seem very minor!

Sandy, you have such a great attitude, I'm sure there's a lot of good karma surrounding you wherever you travel! (And I hope whoever did this horrible thing was really embarassed and disconcerted not to mention disappointed by what he - as it undoubtedly was - found in your luggage, I'm just picturing some punk with green zebra stripes, lol.)

Hi Becky,
You gave me my laugh for the day!! Now, I too am envisioning some punk in my green/white zebra stripe sweater! LOL! I did call Banana Republic and they still had the sweater and it was even on sale, so of course I went out and bought another one. And more good news, they even let me use my 20% discount that I got on line after my last purchase and is only supposed to be used on regular priced merchandise! I guess the clerk felt sorry for me losing my luggage.
I have had my share of travel woes, but the last few years things have gone pretty smoothly and I do attribute it to a positive attitude and as you suggest "good karma". Years ago, I used to come pretty much unglued when there were problems but quickly learned that it was just too hard on the old body to get so upset - and besides that, it didn't go one bit of good! Things work out so much better when one keeps a cool head and goes with the flow so that is what I try to do.
I received an e-mail from one of my friends who works for Sheedy Crane in SF - her boss was on the way to work on Monday and found a couple of suitcases with the contents strewn all over the sidewalk. He found a cell phone number on the luggage ID tags and called the number. The owners were on their way to tour Alcatraz and had no idea that their luggage had been stolen from their trunk. He took the bags to his office and they came to pick them up. They did have 2 other pieces of luggage which were not found and happened to have all their tickets, etc. in them so I'm sure those pieces of luggage are long gone. I'm not certain exactly where they were parked but my friend thought that it was down on the Embarcadero! Sounds like there is a group that is working the area pretty hard. I don't know if the people called the police to make a report about their stolen luggage, but I hope that they did. Maybe they will start having more policemen patrol the area regularly so that this won't keep happening to unsuspecting visitors.
I know one thing, I am done putting belongings in the trunk for "safe keeping"

Sandy - That's wonderful news about the sweater. As for your stolen undergarments, I think that the next time you're in Paris, you deserve to treat yourself to some gorgeous undies, which you shouldn't have a hard time finding there. Now that I think about it, I don't think that there will be a punk walking around with your sweater. It'll be the mother of a punk, and I bet she's going to get your sweater for Christmas this year.

Shoesy,
What a wonderful excuse to make a trip to Paris - not that I need an excuse of course, but the idea is great! I wonder what my husband would think of that!! LOL
Well, I'm old enough to be the "grandmother" of a punk but I still wear the sweater anyway, it's very cute and I feel great wearing it - I liked it so much that I also bought the black/white zebra sweater just like it!
I don't know which idea I like the least-a punk wearing my sweater or the Mother of one wearing it! LOL

I missed all these while having a great time in Paris!! Sandy, I'm so sorry you lost your luggage but like Shoesy said, those lingerie shops will be busy in Paris when you get there in December. What a nice treat for your DH when you get back id he does not go with you!!! I look forward to our next GT next year.

Hi Lilia,
Thanks, I'm sorry too but it could have been worse! Material things can be replaced so that's what I'm doing!
We may have to have our GTG a little earlier next year as I am really going to try to make the Paris Vendange event next September - I don't want to miss out on that fun again! I may try to make my trip to SF in June, July or August - I'll be sure to let everyone know in advance. And I do think I'll fly out the day before our lunch so that I don't have to worry about late flights again.

Sandy, June generally is a lovely time to be in SF but July and August typically (and perversely) generally are cold, foggy and windy. So - how about we all (everyone who's anyone will of course drop everything to come to San Francisco!) have a date in June 2009?

Or......you lovely California ladies can all come to N.Y. in July so that we can have a combination S.F. - N.Y. GTG. We could make it a real biggy !!! ;D
