Why don't we (like at the Millenium in 2000) let the Aussies and Kiwis uncork the champagne first, and then the MiddleEasterns, the Europeans and then the Americans. And everyone is under the obligation to keep drinking champagne, until our celebration has moved all around the globe and all members have joined in the toast !! Our Secretary of State of Affairs, Choo-Choo, will be the only one sober, so she will have to orchestrate the event, take notes and be our chronicler ! And what a great date to choose for France and Denmark, as we also on 24th May will celebrate the wedding of our youngest prince Joachim (the dork : with the absolutely genuine Parisienne Marie (the golddigger : ........

"Joachim the Dork" divorced "Alexandra the Sophisticated and Loved by Everyone" a few years ago. Well, good riddens for Alex, I'd say. Happy, allow me to quote an earlier (admittedly off-topic) post: www.ourparisforum.com/index.cgi?board=offtopic&action=display&thread=1213&page=3>>> Here is our new Parisian princess-to-be! Marie Cavallier is going to marry Queen Margrethe II's youngest son, Joachim (who is such a dork IMO - and I am not at all sure whether she might not simply be a calculating, scheming golddigger..... ) We'll soon enough run the princess test on her ! Will she or will she not be able to eat an XL-size hotdog WITH tartar sauce, pickled cucumbers and raw onions AND wash it down with a lukewarm Cocio ? If yes, I am all for her !! ;D And THIS is our beloved majesty who has generously lent out a great quantity of Danish silver furniture from our castles for the current exhibition at Versailles. But WHO is that goofy looking garden-gnome at her side ?? <<<

Gitte - You obviously love the idea of people continuously drinking the bubbly for so many hours. You guys can do THAT at your Sept. GTG, but I think it would be nice if for once we can ALL be doing something together at the very same hour. That would be more meaningful..... don't you think?

OK, you just start calculating the exact, precise hour and minute when EACH and EVERY one of us has be ready with the champagne. That's only about 200 members........ I hope you know how to do the abra-ka-dabra on Excel spreadsheets ?

Surely you don't think that 200 members means 200 different time zones!

Don't forget the Kiwis who are even further South . As the most Southern member I am more than happy to lead the drinking charge ( In fact it is a Kiwi national sport). I have no problems whatsoever drinking champagne at extremley early hours in the morning . I am happy to post a timestamped photo to prove that champagne is being quaffed !

Megan - an exalt is coming your way for your very non-ladylike and politically incorrect attitude to champagne quaffing !! ;D ;D

I wonder what attracted Marie Cavallier to the royal and rich dork Prince Joachim?? ( with acnowledgements to Caroline O'Herne. UK members will understand) Has anyone noticed a physical similarity between these two women. Are they twins? Anyway back to the anniversary. I will make sure I am not on nights 24th and 25th, so some poor mum to be will not be left panting! I think the rolling celebration 12 midday local time (or some time) in each country is the best idea then we get to celebrate several times in one day and nobody is up in the night except the insomniacs.

Lots of great events happening on May 24--it's my hubby's birthday, too! How about this for a time: 2:00 pm PDT (California, Victoria BC) 4:00 pm CDT (Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, S. Dakota, Nebraska, N. Carolina) 5:00 pm EDT (Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ottawa, Pennsylvania, N. Carolina, Florida) 5:00 pm ART (Buenos Aires) 10:00 pm BST (London) 11:00 pm CEST (Paris, Denmark) 12:00 midnight IDT (Israel) 7:00 am (the next day) EST (Sydney) 9:00 am (the next day) NZST (Auckland) Do I have everyone's time zone covered? Someone check to see if I'm off anywhere (I used Penny's world clock). This seems to be a pretty reasonable hour for everyone--doesn't hit anyone in the wee hours of the morning

Annette! Without great scrutiny on my part, your suggestion looks like an excellent plan! (at least on first blush!) . I can be there at 4:00 p.m. (Central time) and we can all click in...get on chat or what not (might be a virtual mosh pit in there!)...champagne, wine or what not and give a cheer to OurParisForum !

7.00am is not normally when I would choose to have glass of bubbly - but only because I don't think my empolyer would appreciate it. But since this date falls on a weekend, I'm sure I can oblige.
Mind you it's a Sat night...is no one going out?

Good work, Annette! And if your gorgeous hubby's birthday cake is ready by that time, then how about giving us all a little taste online (with an extra big peice for Ray to give his wife)? ;D

Hey, the kudos go to Penny for finding the world clock link! The rest was easy The 24th falls on Memorial Day weekend in the US, so I'm sure there will be plenty of us out of town. As for me, we'll be celebrating at our condo in Mammoth, so I will still be connected! I'll try to have the cake out of the oven in time, Shoesy!

Given the issues with time zones (and I'm with Megan, as long as we have some Veuve Clique) why don't we just meet in Paris

You know Grunblack that was almost a possibility for me! I have the Friday and Monday around Memorial Day weekend off so I did consider trying to get in a quick trip..adding a vac day or two! But alas it was not to be..... , too much uncertainty going on here!
