I never thought about it, but I get it, Gitte...sort of like Camel-toe.

Here in the Uk we still see the thong on show too but it is normally accompanied by a "Tramp Stamp" above it! (tattoo across the lower back) LOL Happy, I had forgotten that saying....too funny

Hey andi - someone told me that those tattoos on the small of the back are also called "a** antlers"...is that true?
(who started the downward trajectory of this innocent thread anyway? ;D)

My goodness! I left the house for a few hours to go to my ballet class, and when I returned this thread had gone from shoes to butt cracks. How interesting! ;D

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that I was a Metuselah now So much white hair in such a short time ... Demarais, unfortunately my "middle-section problem" is is not about my waist only : it goes all the way down till my upper thighs (included) . Cybee, I am not sure about what you call the "flare look", but if you mean the trousers which are quite tight on the thighs and then get wide over the shoes, then yes, they are definetly out . New trousers are wide-legged : quite wide from the upper thighs onwards and then they go down rather straight from there, not like the huge "elephant legs" (as we called it in French) from the 70s . Also the fabrics are quite souple, so it doesn't look like the 70s at all (the clothes designers just want to make sure that no old gal will be able to take her old 70s vintage clothes out of the closet and therefore avoid buying new clothes ;D) . But the "slims" or "skinny" trousers are still popular, mostly so with the teenagers, especially as designers don't seem to sell any "wide" jeans (I guess that the fabric isn't supple enough to create the appropriate look) .

I really don't look good in wide-legged pants. They're very unflattering to me, so I'm glad that the skinny fit is in as well. And of course I don't feel comfortable with the low-rise cut because then my midriff rolls show. At least I've never had a problem with pants being so low that my "popo" sticks out. ;D

Gosh, Shoesy...I don't even know what a popo is, but I like it already...it HAS to sound better than what it really is? ?? I, too, don't look good in wide-legged pants. I think my legs are too short....or something PS. You guys are all crazy.

Yes, I felt bad for contributing to the off topic slide...glad to see that our intrepid fashion reporter got us back on track by telling us about the latest FRENCH pant styles.
So, we now know that when we go to PARIS, we won't have to look at sea gulls, muffin tops, a** antlers and/or butt cracks. ;D

Anne, Thank you for the "latest pant's look" report! I appreciate it! I guess I should have said "boot cut" as opposed to "flare"...but I suspect the same answer applies as the distinction is merely one of degree. Now boots go over slim jeans, not under bootcuts! The type of wide leg pants you describe conjure up Katherine Hepburnesque pants of days of yore? They were lovely on her. I am glad the "wide legs" are not too horribly wide such as "elephant pants". However, yes, of course, the winds of fashion oft revisit trends of the past but always with a twist so that, as you say, we can't just find old pants from the 70s to use! ha!

Katherine Hepburn and Laureen Bacall...... now, those dames had true class - and popo's that looked good in pants !

I see very well what you mean as Katharine Hepburn pants . Well, those I saw were usually much less wide than hers, but then it is the first year that this kind of pants are back . So maybe next year, when people have gotten used to this wide pants idea, then they will grow very wide ? And yes Sister, you will still have to see all those, if only on teenagers . Skinny jeans with low waist are still very much alive for them .

Wear pants from the 70's !?! I could never fit into anything from that long ago. Those were my pre-motherhood days. Today if I tried to wear something that I wore in those days, a helluva lot more than my popo would be sticking out. ;D

Looks more like a "split skirt" than pants! Sort of like the mid calf, "gaucho" style that were "popular" a summer ago or so?

My god...with PLEATS even! They make elephant pants look tame. I'm afraid you have to have legs thiiiiiiis long to look good in those. (I can see K. Hepburn in them lookin' great!) Oh I'm thinking that I'm not going to take the Paris fashion scene by storm this trip after all .

Let me continue the fashion thing. This is from last weeks Madame Figaro. As Anne said, the pants are highwaisted and wide - also a very trendy thing for this autumn and winter are the enormously broad corsette-like belts (I cannot imagine what part of my body would NOT bulge out and be made into a muffintop, if I put on such an instrument !). Another thing is open-toed escarpins (high heels) - also "sandal-style" ones, combined with "winterly" 40 den. pantyhoses ! It's true, there was a photo shooting from some Paris bridge showing it !

GitteK, Hmm! Velly interesting! Open toed and sandal highheels with winter 40 den nylons, eh? hmmm...but those pants...they look like loose flares or (note my orange triangular markings on pic)...?

I also cringe thinking how much bigger ones chest would look with that big ruffled thing hanging off the front of it...now maybe in SOME of you, that would be a benefit...not moi.

I simply adore those bronze-coloured "Escarpins en satin, détail à bijou" 425 € (no. 4 in the "soir" section) ! Not that I could ever squeeze my feet into them. I would just put them on my desk, for decoration and dreaming. And I LOVE the expression that one's "silhouette" is something you can "rythmer" !!
