Girls, I spent part of my day roaming the Printemps and Galeries Lafayettes in the nearest big city, so here is the latest update on shoes fashion in France : Patent leather is indeed THE big thing . Mostly black, but I saw a few grey and some bordeaux too . Some have a strap like the Mary Janes, and some still have the looong pointed front, but the new fashion is a kind of 1930s (?) style, with a short, slightly rounded front and thick, slightly- or very-triangular heels . I don't like this style at all, so I went for some very classic patent leather ones : Wore in the evening with black tights, I think that they will look quite JCFM, won't they ? This was Anne, your fashion reporter direct from France ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the shoe fashion update Anne!!!! Those shoes are beautiful...I would be able to wear them for an evening out, but I can't wear shoes like that very often anymore. C'est dommage !! Now, you know that we will expcet a FULL fashion report before our trip in December, right happy?! ;D

Yes, those shoes are nice, but I can´t wear those kinds of shoes anymore either. Westerday I wore a pair of boots with that kind of pointed front, that I haven´t wore for a long time, and I suffered like hell, my toes were all cramped. I couldn´t wait to get home and get rid of them!

yeah.......very good legs indeed ! Congrats ! FYI, patent leather (vernis) is not artificial leather, AFAIK - or maybe everyone already knew ? And for those of you who are maybe not as updated on French fashion as me and Anne ......... High heeled shoes are called "escarpins" The heels are called the "talons". "Talons compensés" or "Semelles compensées" are the thick heels (or soles) that go all the way under the foot (what is that called in English ?) And yes - FigaroMadame is right now filled with "vernis"-shoes for autumn and winter chic !

Gitte,
Heels that go all the way across the sole (like in the picture) are called "wedges" in English. Then we also have "platform" shoes, like we used to wear in the 70's, remember??!?!?

Boy, do I remember those platforms ........... BUT they are still quite fashionable, it would seem.

Yes, I "fell off" of my platforms once...we won't talk about that though...

Another " Old Lady Story"...we were never allowed to wear patent leather shoes to school dances! The boys might see up our dresses!
Ah, the tales those lovely nuns feed into our young heads!

Sister and Sandy - Don't you ever believe that I wear such shoes on a daily basis ! My daily attire is always low-heels shoes and casual clothes . Those shoes are for dinner parties or evenings out only as far as I am concerned . And yes, my feet hurt after a while too . Shoesy and Gitte - You make me blush Sister - I am not able to give you a full fashion report, but here is what I am aware of : TOPS : blouses or very thin turtlenecks with a tunic or a tank top or a V-neck sweater on top of it (huge come-back of the tank tops, which had disappeared long ago) TROUSERS : high-waist and rather large . There are still quite a few "slim" and low-waist ones, but it seems that they are on the descending slope . Good thing, I don't own any : my middle-section is a bit too plump to allow me to look even midly attractive in one of those (ça me boudine ;D ;D ;D!) SKIRTS : I could see all kind of lenghts, except for the very long ones . Now girls, you'll have no excuse for not being VERY chic this Winter !

Ooh! Anne! Love your shoes! Good find! You will look tres chic in them during those dinner parties and evenings out! I also very much appreciate your fashion report! Most interesting! So slacks are high waisted and ....are you saying wide legged or ? Quite wide legged or moderately so? So the flare look is over or ? So many questions! ha! Sorry! But such always interests me! Are people tucking in their shirts then or not? Oh, the winds of changing fashion....

I'll be so glad NOT to have to look at bellies!! So few women and girls don't have just a bit of a "roll" there even if they are slim.

Demarais! Yes! I hear you! As pant waistlines went lower, one would hope longer tops would be de rigeur..but non! Short tops with bellies protruding! As you say, even slim women seemingly had rolls there and it was not an attractive look at all! Who was it that told me (Becky?), they call them "mall bellies"! ha!

they also call those belly rolls "muffin tops"...like the way the top of a muffin spills over the paper muffin tin ;D

I thought they were called "love handles" - or are they not the same ? BTW - why is that we go all Miranda-Priestly-hen-a*ss about girls wearing low-waist pants ?? Look at all the MEN - with their belly hanging out over the belt !! Naaaaahhh....... but that's DIFFERENT....... that's only so cute and charming and pappa-bear-like ....... Yeah, as if.... !

Not that I like it, but I can look at all the belly-hanging-over-the pants you want, but I CANNOT look at butt cracks...in either men or women. I will be SO glad when the low-rise pants fad is gone. And, if that wasn't bad enough, how about when a young lady has the top of her thong underwear showing in back of her low-rise pants. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH! (I know...I'm showing my age...) Thank you, Anne, for the fashion update. I will now go shopping. I intend to be a fashion plate when I WOW Paris this December. PS. You DO have great stix for an old babe, Anne

happy, the g-string showing on top of the jeans (especially when the young girls are riding a sportsbike) is called the "the sea-gull" in DK - due to the ressemblance !
