What a wonderful way to start this, the last birthday I'm going to admit to... Anyway, thanks to all of my dear Paris peeps for your well wishes. In a few hours I am going to drive to Wallops Island, VA (about 5 minutes from Chincoteaque, on the Atlantic coast of VA for those of you who aren't in the US). My husband is away at some training exercise...he is actually ditching the evening activity to spend time with me on my birthday. So I hope that he compensates me for driving 3 hours by having the Veuve Cliquot ready (right on Geordy!) Chincoteaque has some of the best oysters in the WORLD, so I plan to do some major sippin and slurpin!!! VC and oysters....mmmmm, what a birthday - I'm so happy that it's SeptembeR. I will report back tomorrow!! Thanks again!

Well, I didn't get the oysters and VC...yet, anyway. Poor hubby couldn't find any VC on the island, so I forgave him as he told me he would be sure to bring home some fresh oysters for a Veuve Cliquot/ Fresh Oyster feast later this week.
I couldn't be mad because I had a FABULOUS birthday meal at a great bistro in Ononcoke, VA called Bizzotto's - it turns out that the chef is this older gentleman from Venice who ended up in this tiny town on the VA coast in 1967. He makes leather purses, and about 10 years ago decided to open a restaurant adjacent to his gallery. The food was AWESOME - I had a eastern shore fresh tomato salad with home grown basil and fresh mozzarella and balsamic vinaigrette. We shared a bottle of seven deadly zins, which was really reasonable and really good. Hubby had fresh Chincoteague oysters, breaded and fried with a light tomato sauce. Then I had the cod with caper sauce, a light white sauce with garlic and capers over yukon gold mashed potatoes with fresh spinach, and hubby had a rack of lamb with veggies, to which he said baaa, mmmmm. We had dessert (espresso and molten lava chocolate cake) and when leaving we had a long chat with the owner chef...it wasn't French cuisine but it definitely was a European experience, which was pretty amazing considering where we were! I was very happy.
And today we went for a long walk on the beach at Chinoteague, and saw some of the famous wild ponies. It was a picture perfect day weatherwise, and I was grateful that we wer able to be so close to the ocean on such a lovely day.
To sum things up, it was a great birthday, despite the fact that it wasn't spent in Paris ;D And I still have my VC to look forward to!

Wow, Sis, what a great dinner! (But I commiserate about the woeful lack of VC - however, since you will have it later, you can simply extend "the day"!)

That's right Sis, keep the celebration going as long as possible!! I started mine when a friend took me out for a B'day drink at the Water Club here(on the East River) Aug 19(early since I was going to NJ to celebrate with sibs for Labor Day and then we know where ) and haven't finished yet! (still have to see my niece and a friend or two!) Enjoy your next round of oysters and the VC! And your meal did sound delicious...and the ponies!

Geordy - The rate you're going, the time you finish celebrating your birthday, it'll be time for another trip to Paris. ;D
