Gitte...the apt is lovely. It looks bright and airy. I'm sure you'll be very happy there. And it DOES look like the balcony is big enough for all of us! You don't like cheese? How funny...

In 2002 (second tirp to Paris), I started collecting the "cheaper" line after seeing the "real" Gault figurines on my first trip to Paris in 1979. I just couldn't spend over $100.00 (and UP) on a small building that I knew would grow to many (once addicted, always addicted!). I was so happy when the "cheaper" line started being shown. I have a "greenhouse" window in my kitchen and that is where my Paris collection lives. I have also added Provencal buildings and santons from Provence and they, too, live in the greenhouse window. I love coming downstairs every morning and seeing them reminding me of Paris.
Becky, do you know the store on I'lle St. Louis?

Gitte -- love the look of your apartment! Is that the one in Montmartre? Would you share the information? However, I don't know if I want to stay in Montmartre -- my 40+ years of smoking (now smoke-free for 2 years!!!) plus sitting in front of a computer all day has left my fitness in need of assistance!! I remember in 1979 walking up, UP, UP to Montmartre and having to stop and rest about every fourth step! Or, ..........I could start a fitness program now and be ready for Montmartre in a year! Naw....................!

Hi, Joy -- If I had seen the others first I probably would have gone with them (although what got me sucked in was the ones that were the specific sites right on the island). I also like their more village-looking line, but I didn't really have space (or budget) for two completely different collections! I haven't added to mine for quite some time, but still really get a smile from seeing it (also have a picture of the original 3 or 4 taken in Paris, at the flat where we were staying).
I can't recall the name of the shop, but it's either in the same block as Berthillion or the one beyond, on the same side of the street (you can't miss it, because they always have some of the houses in the window). The woman who runs it is very nice, and they also have a lot of nice (not junky) other souvenir type items, which I've gotten several times for people back home (as well as a few things for myself, like some wine bottle fridge magnets, etc.).
Well worth checking out when you're there next (and the Gault store on rue de Rivoli also is a lot of fun). One of my favorite things from the Gault accessories (not expensive at all) is the Metro stop (also the ad kiosks) because it's such a nice reminder of Paris.

Gitte, Great apartment pictures. No wonder you can't wait to get there. Please post your trip feedback. This next time we will be in an hotel so Danish husband can have his airconditioning. But after this trip, will look into apartments. Hmm--June of 2008. I have a conference in Glasgow in July and don't think I can get away in June, too unless at the very end. Then I might start in Paris, go to Scotland, see friend in Plymouth and maybe try to get to Prague. Probably too ambitious. But fun to dream.

It will all depend on how late the dates in June are. The conference I am going to will be in July but those dates will not be firm till this September. Once I get them I will see what can be coordinated. Would really love to meet you and the others. Hope all goes well with your trip to N.Y with reduced luggage space, especially when packing for a wedding.

Yes Cybee of course...I didn't mention you specifically but I would love to meet you and EVERYONE else here on the board...especially for our 50th birthday blowout. Wouldn't that be a great way to celebrate that momentous birthday? Of course Gitte would have to get a bigger balcony

But I want to go now! Guess I could save for June. but speaking of birthdays. My sister says to me the other day.. "should we plan something special for your birthday this year?, me "Why", "well it's your 60th" "No that was last year" can't believe my sister doen't remember my age. but the thought was there. But who needs an occasion to go to Paris? No me, just money.

Penny - It's not so bad that your sister made a mistake about your age. I remember once when I made a mistake about my OWN age.

That it a nice thought , Shoesy! I recall wondering if I was "old" at 26 years! ha! I was reading "Majorie Morningstar" back then and I was thinking "Marjorie" was about the same age, and did the author consider her old? Oh, the wisdom that comes with age! ha! I have found that it is really how one feels/ perceives things that determines age. Some are seemingly so much older or younger than the others at that their same age! I think having interests and joys (such as Paris!) helps keep us young!

I agree, cybee. Let's face it.........I wouldn't be going to ballet classes with teenagers if I really felt my age, would I? ;D

Naw....................! luvparee: If I can do Montmartre, so can you. I am now a happy ex-smoker (1½ years since I stopped) - but I am very overweighty so I huff and I puff up those Montmartre stairs. I think that my lunges are about to come out sometimes, but if I take a few steps and pause, enjoy the view, catch my breath, take another few steps and enjoy the view - then 'OPLA !! suddenly I am at the top. Remember when Picasso was painting a portrait of Gertrude Stein he made her come to his studio in Montmartre for no less than 80 sittings - and she was a big, sturdy gal as well ! The pictures are NOT from Montmartre, these are from my 2008-apartment in Rue Daguerre in Montparnasse in the 14th arr. (Talk about a "control-freak-overplann'omaniac" ) My 2007-apartment is this one - from Monday 18th this month !! www.perfectlyparis.com/Rooftop%20Vista.html

YES; and I had better take out a FULL liability insurance for any damage to that balcony !! ;D My, what a story there'll be told about us, if we crash down in the courtyard: champagne bottles and dames in one big mess ! Good that it's only on the first floor. So we may get away with minor bruises - and maybe some of the champagne can be taken with us in the ambulance ? Will they give us a shared room in the hospital to recover, I wonder ?? And how about Chet and David ?
