Among my faovrite things in Paris is our neighborhood Wine Bar, Au Sauvignon. It is not a particularly beautiful place, and I've had almost as many bad glasses of wine as decent ones (excellent remains elusive at this address), BUT what a place.
Au Savignon is ont he corner of St Peres and Sevres, which means there si plenty of sidewalk to spread out for terrace enjoyment. The toursits come here in droves as they head fromt he St Germain neighborhood to do some serious shopping at the Bon Marche. Inspite of the invasion, this place reminds a tried and true neighborhood haunt.
I am a regular there. The waiters don't know this because they rotate as often as a Frenchman changes lovers. The patrons know it, though, and the list includes lots of the local rich and famous. Usually I go with my SO and we are treated well, but more or less ignored. Tonight I went with a girlfriend, C, and our three kids. C knows everyone who is anyone in this city and before you know it a well known actor was making eyes at me as the president of an int'l advertising agency took an interest in seeing my portfolio. Talk about networking!
The entire evening was relaxed, exciting and immensely enjoyable, reminding me of the joys of living in a Capital City.............
Oh, and if you are hungry, they have a most excellent salmon platter, foie gras plate and sandwiches served on pain Poilane, in addition to the simplest, most delicious fruit tarts I have had in this city. (not to mention the cheeses from the house of Barthalemy). Bottoms up!!!!! (sorry that I did not post this under restaurants, but for me it is more cultural)
