The only one that interested me at all was the Petit Moulin. But I have "my" hotel and would not change it. However, we are beginning to think apartments for stays of a week or more to help defray the continually sinking dollar. If we were only to be in paris for a few days then back to Relais du Louvre--otherwise it would be nice to have a kitchen. Now if I could just find a way to get to Europe without flying? ?

dear holger, they invented the QM2 just for your sake, regardez !! 6 days of pure relaxation and glorious luxury, now that's what I call REAL travelling ! Never having to rub shoulders with all sort of tourist riff-raff in the airport , no baggage hauling , no crummy uncomfortable airplane seats , no jet-lag , no plastic-wrapped microwave-heated junkfood - but real yummy cuisine and grand cru wine in crystal glasses ! Go for it, that's my opinion. www.cunard.com/Destinations/default.asp?Region=7

I could certainly see myself relaxing on the QM2, which I assume would be more fun than even a cruise on the Seine ! ;D I guess by now I have fully recovered from my last big voyage (in a former life ), which took place in 1912..... sigh!

LOL...I'm glad you clarified the former life thing, Shoesy. I might have thought you were lying about your age all this time. Doesn't that ship look wonderful! I have a dear friend who's terrified to fly...she never has...she says she'll go to Paris with me when she has enough money to take the QE2 over. She doesn't know what she's missing!

If any of you are really interested in cruising to/from Europe rather than flying, check out a website like cruises.com, vacationstogo.com, or cruisedeals.com and peruse their "repositioning" cruises. These one-way cruises happen when a ship is moving from one area of service to another, and for Europe to/from the US, these typically happen in the spring and fall. You can find some much better deals than the QE2 easily (but I DO like her style!).

Thanks Annette, I would love a round trip on the QE11 but she is too expensive for me. I will look into the repositioning trips, though. My first trip to and from Europe in 1957 was on what they called a student ship although there were many non-students. We left from NY and landed in England. Returned from Le Havre. Gitte, what I recall was that good brandy was 25 cents a glass.

1957 is a great vintage, the best there is........... Ladies, it is not the QE2 - it's the QM2. QM2 is a brand new ship from 2004. I quote: >>the grandest, most magnificent ocean liner ever built<< QE2 is an oooold rusty bathtub from 1990 You know, it's just so that you don't sound like all hillbillies and total ignoramusses from the 27th potato-row when you phone Cunard to book your tickets...... ;D

Gitte!! ;D
I saw a series, on TV, about the building and outfitting of the QMII. It was sooo interesting! It started with the design process of the ship and went right through to welcoming the guests on the inaugural voyage.
The number of everything that's onboard is staggering - the many thousands of towels, wine glasses, plates etc., not to mention the number of bottles of wine and champagne. The episode on staff training was so good.

Add Hotel Le 123 in the 8th to the list. I like to use www.splendia.com to view design hotels in a specific city, but I would never book directly with them...trop cher.
