Well, since even the Washington Post know it I guess the cat it out of the bag! Personally I really like Belleville, not as Gitte would said "postcard perfect Paris" but very lively and interesting.
With some Parisians friends (original soixante huitars now recycle bobos) we ate at a very large Chinese restaurant called Le Président Royal Belleville, because Mitterand was there a few times. The first story dining room must be one of the largest in Paris, the décor is traditional red and gold and the selection on the menu is absolutely endless. Perfect if you have a group to take out, everyone will find something they like.

The article wasn't TOO bad...although I must agree with you Truffaut, don't you just love it when writers act like they've "discovered" some place? Jeez, we wandered around Belleville after visiting Pere Lachaise on my FIRST trip to Paris so it's not like it's all that hard to find!!!
I enjoyed it too...very different from the more "touristed" parts of Paris, but I like that aspect of it too, Luc.

You guys know may Paris inside-out, but I don't think Belleview is known to most of the "ordinary" people.......... (you know, the kind who don't happen to own a lovely apt. in Paris. )

What was that animated movie a few years ago that was nominated for an Oscar. Les Trois Soeurs de Belleville, or something like that?

Thank you, Truffaut. This is especially timely since we will be staying nearby.

When I was a child, my parents used to take us to Belleville on lazy sundays. I remember very well that I was scared and found that this part of Paris was very dirty, but the good part was the great "Couscous" we enjoyed in a North African restaurant (now closed, unfortunately).
