Hello, not my trip report, but hubby is in Paris , and phoned this morning. It was so exciting to talk to him,, as he informed me he was at that very moment standing under the Arc D'Triomphe!! They ( hubby, and our 14 yr old, and hubbys friend) are having a wonderful time. Hubby has never been to Paris,, so I am glad he is loving it ( easier to convince him now why I must constantly return). They are pleased with the hotel I booked them in , Hotel Des Mines, I was nervous about that,, but they love it, and location is good. Hubby and his friend had dinner at a cafe last night, and horrors of horrors, (but much to my sons delight) sent son across street to McDonalds, while they ate steak , pomme frites, and escargot!!
Trip from Calais to Paris went well, but, ( and I warned them, to arrive earlier or later) they arrived in Paris during rush hour ,,and spent at least one hour just getting from ring road to hotel!!

Joan - I'm delighted to hear that your guys are having a great time. Soon it'll be your turn to go to Paris, right? BTW, I think it's a good idea to let kids eat at McD. or any other place that would please them if it gives the adults an opportunity to enjoy their meal at a place they want to dine.

Joan, I am so glad to hear that they are having a wonderful time, I don't think I could have let them go and stayed back home myself. I would be so ratty and jealous! Even if I was going at a later date ( I can be a brat at times over holidays) At least now they will understand your passion and know exactly what you are talking about. Keep us updated won't you.

Happy, I know that I will probably be booed for this one, but personally, I just can't eat escargots! To me, those are the nasty, slimey little things that eat the flowers in my garden -- and while there would be some poetic justice in turning them into my own lunch , I just can't face the thought of it (even with lots of butter and garlic). So, if the choice is between McD and escargots, well, much as I don't like McD I'm afraid I would have to vote with Joan's son on that one . . . . ;D

LOL ,, Hey guys,, we eat escargot at home,, my son won't touch them here either!!! and guess what,, I almost never eat them when not at home,, I don't think restaurants prepare them as well as my family does!!! Now,,, Becky,, I must tell you,, snails, caught in the garden go into a shoebox for three days,, where they are fed lettuce,, this cleans out their little systems,, so they are a very " clean" meat,, I mean have you ever thought about what some other foods ( meats) you like eat!!! LOL I have been on a Paris " high" all day,, half mad with jealously,, and half just vicarious joy,, at the though of my hubby standing under the Arc ,, and chatting away to me..
I am so relieved too, that he is loving it.. Now, to pop over and see if Gitte has posted,, I just love this board,, I can stay excited about Paris 24/7 ,, LOL

Joan - I can understand the bit about you getting your vicarious thrills just thinking about your guys in Paris. I would be feeling the same way if I were in your shoes. I'm going to be experiencing that in August when my daughter is there on her honeymoon at the same time my sister is there with her family. Of course I may feel an itsy bitsy jealous too.

Becky, I relate to your thought of the snails in the garden. I am so mad at the stupid bunnies in my garden that I have given my family permission to eat all the rabbit they want in Paris! And that's coming from a vegetarian, mind you!

And snakes too, which scare the heck out of me, but at least they don't eat my flowers!

Hubby phoned again,,, they are Germany right now,, rented a convertable so they can have fun on the autobahn,, ( I don't want to even think about that!). Hubby loved Paris, said they enjoyed an evening during th e"fete de la musik"( sp?) where they wandered the streets till midnight encountering live music on every street corner. Hubby also said that the Leanardo De Vinci exhibit was awesome , except every exhibit explaination was in french,, which I can understand is frustrating. They will be home in three more days,, can't wait for full report!

Joan, thanks for bringing us up to speed (HA!) on their progress! You will find a couple of entries about the fete de la musique (sorry, can't make accents) in the Paris arts & culture section. Sounds like they have had a really good trip, and we will all enjoy hearing more about their impressions.
