I recently was told (by a travel agent friend) about a web site that I now use regularly, and wanted to share. Whenever you are booking a plane reservation you may want to check out www.seatguru.com to see which seat is your best choice. My friend says that in her experience, this site sometimes has more accurate information than the airline's own web site, so she always consults it for herself and for clients. To use the site, you need to know which airline and the model of plane used on the flight you are considering (generally listed in the rest of the information about the flight). You can then see things like which seats are considered best and worst (and why), which seats have power outlets (generally very few in coach, but if you're taking an iPod or some other electronic gadget this can be important on a long trip), etc. I "dont leave home with out it" (my apologies to AmEx, and . . . oh no, I'm showing my recently more advanced age!).

Another very helpful resource is Flight Tracker, particularly if you are picking up an arriving passenger. Also excellent for information if you are delayed en route and have internet access. The information it provides may be used in a variety of ways. www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight

Seat guru is very useful. If you have the information on plane type in advance, it does help before you request your seats. Problem is that with AF some of the equipment-type numbers do not match the ones on the seat guru site.

Great information. Luckily, I don't need it because we always fly EL AL, and my hubby's friend who works there always arranges great seats for us..........usually the ones at the emergency exit where you have all that leg room.
holger - I'm so glad to see you have a kitty avatar, and such a cute one at that!!! Now all I need to see is for you to successfully enter the chatroom.

Hi Becky,
From good old GB, it is a big thumbs down on the seat arrangements via the cattle truck known as Easy Jet (you can't pre book)........ however at £19.99 + taxes outbound we don't grumble!
Best wishes

Iank9 -- sounds like Southwest Air in the US (known here as "the big school bus in the sky)!

I hadn't heard SW called that, Becky, but it is SO apt.
