Go to your profile (to to the top bar of any page you are on, under the banner for "post message")click on "profile," and click on "modify"). Then go over to "avatar," on the left side of the various things you can change, and there is a drop-down menu with some icons you can use. As to creating your own, however, there are various threads on this site showing how (I have not done it yet).

Still runs with scissors, still colors outside the lines, but also plays well with others!

yes I'm hitting Modify. all I can assume is it doesn't recognize the URL from imageshack or my image is too big but I cannot find a way to edit the image. I give up for now but will check with the person who gave me the imageshack link to create a URL
