Has anyone been to the Aquarium? If so, was it worth it? Having two small grandsons and living in So. Ca. we have become avid Aquarim visitors. I was thinking it might be something to do if the weather is really bad and hubby has exceeded his museum limit.

Suzanne, I never knew there is an aquarium in Paris! That is something we would enjoy, too. We visited the one in Valencia, Spain, last year and loved it. And of course, we enjoy our local ones, too!

Annette, From what I know it is near the Trocodaro (sp?) and has been recently refurbished. there is an advertisement for it on the free map from Galleries Lafayette.

No, suzanne, it is not even near Trocadéro - quite the opposite, in fact. You take metro line 8 (e.g. from Concorde), eastwards direction Créteil Préfecture and hop off at "Porte Dorée". Walk towards the park (Bois de Vincennes) and the aquarium will be on your left hand. www.aquarium-portedoree.org/This link is only in French, but do not hesitate to ask for a translation, if you need it. The building itself is quite famous for its art déco style and its mural bas-reliefs (what is that in English ?) fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palais_de_la_Porte_Dor%C3%A9eYou can combine it with a walk in the park around the lake and on the small islands. And maybe a visit to Chateau de Vincennes on the nothern side of the park too.

Thank you Gitte, I saw something at linkparis.com/aguarium.htm that indicated the Trocodero was the location. Perhaps there are two??

Last year when we were in Paris we had been walking alot and stopped to sit on a bench and rest by that big fountian at the Trocodero. I noticed construction going on so I went over to investigate and saw a sign that said something to the effect of coming soon, Aguarium. I forgot about it until I received the apartmnt keys today. They had included one of those free Galleries Lafayette maps and one of the advertisements on the edge was for this new aguarium.

According to my guidebook, there are actually three aquariums in Paris : aquarium de la Villette at the Cité des Sciences de La Villette, aquarium du Trocadéro and aquarium tropical de la Porte Dorée . This one seems by far the biggest and nicest one of the three, but although I have never visited it, I suspect that you Californian may be quite disappointed with it . I have visited the Monterey aquarium twice and heard about the San Diego, and I don't think that any of the Parisian aquariums may compare favourably with the Californian ones .

Thank you Anne! Gitte's post made me think I was losing it totally. I swore I remembered an aquarium near Trocadero.
