This week's number of Figaro Madame is all about such nice household utilities as jewellery, pearls, watches and all other bling-blings. There are some current events in Paris that may interest you: Exhibition in the Museum of Natural History at Jardin des Plantes about pearls. Their biology, how they grow, what they are, all different sorts, how they have been used in jewellery down the ages etc etc. The exhibition runs until 10th March 2008. www2.mnhn.fr/perles/Next weekend (7th-9th Dec.)there is an exhibition of luxury watches in Carrousel du Louvre. There will be items enough to put for your Christmas wishing list: >>>Une sélection de marques prestigieuses, parmi lesquelles A. Lange & Söhne, Bedat, Bertolucci, Blancpain, Boucheron, B.R.M., Bulgari, Cabestan, Cartier, Chanel, Chaumet, Concord, Cyclos, Daniel Roth, De Bethune, Delaloye, Duc Oger, Philippe Dufour, Gérald Genta, Glashütte, Greubel Forsey, Vianney Halter, Hautelence, Hublot, Hysek, F.P. So ladies, dig deep into your closet and find something plum-coloured ! Claudia Schiffer, Sharon Stone and Anne Hathaway are already up there in plummy. On est glam ou on ne l'est pas.......

And while we are at it. These are the trends for next spring/summer and if you want to blend in and not stick out as an ugly tourist ;D , you had better pay close attention ! madame.lefigaro.fr/mode/defiles/femmesBut it must be a relief to know that baggy jeans are still in fashion (provided you can afford the accessories ! )

Thank you to care about our most essential needs Gitte ;D Yes, the expression "haute horlogerie" is sometimes used too . For watches worth 4 or preferably 5 digits in euros of course . What are you writing about plum ? I went shopping today at Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, and it was still grey As far as those jeans are concerned, this is just the bad news of my day . OK, skinny jeans with ultra-low waist are not what suits me best and I was eagerly waiting for the fashion to change, but those jeans on this picture are HORRIBLE ! Don't tell me that you find them becoming ! I have a feeling that I am going to miss the current fashion, and that is saying much ...

I love wide-legged jeans but the ones on that model are too big for her, no? She needs to eat a few dozen Laduree macarons.
I just went to LandsEnd and bought a yummy PLUM cashmere turtleneck and wide leg denim pants (not to be confused with jeans). If the style changes between now and 12/25 I'll commit hari-kari!

I think that model is so good-looking that she needn't worry about what kind of jeans she wears.

I sure didn't see any baggy jeans..most of them looked painted on, tucked into high boots and on young girls whose legs started at their armpits! But leggings or tights with short short skirts were everywhere. I'm assuming the ones who had long sweaters or short coats had skirts on. Lots of lace up the back 3 Musketeer boots too I'm not sure what fashion statement this one was making.

Ladies, we are talking CHANEL here, so quit the whining...... Anne - yes, still grey, but they definitely say "prune" is to be SO much in this winter. There were photos of the 3 mentioned ladies, including Claudia in "prune" from top to toe. And we don't expect her to out of style all of a sudden, ou quoi ? Trousers like that are called " anti-slim".......... yeah, sure ! Look, even bicycle clips come in a très chic version CHANEL !

Yeah Happy, wide-legged jeans are OK, but only as long as they fit on the hips ! These ones are just shapeless, stricto sensu "baggy" . And I have this horrible suspicion that "too wide" must equal "cool" . Shoesy, OK the model does still look good, but this is typically the type of trousers that make thin women look not-so-thin and fat women look even fatter

Yes, I'm with Demarias--I noticed mostly tight, straightleg jeans tucked into boots, or leggings or tights with short skirts and boots, and a lot of long sweater tops/short dresses that were tight around the popo worn with leggings and boots. The only wide legged pants I noticed many of were black slacks. At least 90% of the female population were wearing boots, either black (70%) or brown (30%). Boots were mostly knee high, but ankle boots with skirts made a good showing as well. Heel height on the boots were split 50/50 between flats and heeled. Also a great percentage of boots the ladies were wearing had multiple straps and buckles. As for colors--yes, grey and plum seem to be "in".

Anne, there is a show on television here in the US, called What Not To Wear. Someone writes in to recommend a friend or family member who is um...fashion challenged . Usually they look pretty bad. The two stylists take the poor woman under their wing for a week in New York, with a charge card for $5000 and lessons on how to dress themselves. Anyway, the two stylists have said over and over that most women would benefit from wearing a wider leg trouser (unless they're very, very slim) because it balances out the top of you. I've never been a fan of wide leg trousers, but it looks good on tv so I figure I'll give it a go and see if it works.

Oh, I must be getting old ... I just called my daughters to show them Gitte's pictures of those "horrible shapeless trousers" and they just had a quick look and left by saying "Yeah, these are called FLARE trousers, they've been around for months " . I swear I had never noticed them before, getting old I tell you ... Happy, I had forgotten to exalt you for your stylish purchases which prove your efforts to look good in order to hook sweet Nicolas . And the French don't want a shabby-looking First Lady either !

"Yeah, these are called FLARE trousers, they've been around for months " Some of us remember when they were around the first time, well maybe not the first time, but the first time for me was in the late 60's, early 70's. I'll be happy to see the end of the super skinny pants/jeans/trousers. A wider leg does balance my wider bottom. But if I lived in Paris, I would soon walk off that wider bottom! ;D

Darcy dear, how would it feel to live on a lifelong diet in PARIS of all places ? With all those warm croissants, the aligot, à la crème sauces, confit de canard, crêpes, paté de campagne, grand marnier soufflé, wine ............. Walking, yes - but also knowing the secret address of a skilled and discreet "has-seen-it-all-so-can-no-longer-be-shocked" corsettière will be absolutely necessary !

My Dh asked when he heard her plans for her last trip if she was walking or skating!

We went Christmas shopping on Sunday (shops are opened in most French towns on the few Sundays before Xmas) and of course my daughters soon managed to turn our Xmas-presents shopping into clothes shopping, much to their dad and brother despair ... My eldest daughter bought flare jeans and I must admit that their triangle shape look great on her, especially since she is very tall (not sure whether small women may look nice in those) . BUT her jeans (and the few other flare that we saw) are tight on the hips, not baggy and shapeless like those on the Chanel photos here . Anyway, most jeans that we saw were still the slim-fit + low waist style ...
