I just read that more transportation strikes may occur in mid-December. I'm trying not to borrow trouble, but has anyone heard anything about this?

I have not heard that , however it would not surprise me. I would go to Paris during a strike as long as I could from the airport into Paris. A strike could be inconveinent if you have planned trips out of town. As long as your are up for some serious walking Paris is still Paris, strike or not. I think I would be nervous about getting back to the airport and not missing my flight. I was there during a stike once and the traffic was really bad.

When the unions went back to work it was to give themselves some time to negotiate. Last I heard they had reserved the right to go back on strike Dec. 5.

Even on the worst day of the recent strikes, we were barely inconvenienced, and it's not as if the 17th is in the very center of the city.

I think we all should be okay the week between the Holidays...doesn't seem like enough of an inconvenience at that time to have an impact, and who would want to picket? But with my luck they could start up after NY's for the trip to the airport! But let us worry about having to do "snow dances" first!

Two trade unions have indeed given a "strike warning" for the 18th or 20th December . But for the moment it is more of a blackmail to give them more power during the current negiciations than an actual threat . One of them has even announced that this warning was "just in case" (... the negociations would fail) . The biggest union (CGT) has announced that they don't want a strike during the holidays period .
My personal opinion is that there won't be anymore real long strike, they have understood that they won't win here .
