Thanks Annette, I just read the news. That's a shame - especially if he was clean (well, none of them are, I suppose). He has been an arrogant idiot, trying to fill everyone with lies about his whereabouts and now he gets the payback exploding right in his face. What can we learn: lying never pays !! Well........... maybe the itsybitsy white lies from time to time (like telling your Weightconsultant that you only had one Berthillon ice cone with calorie-free lemonsorbet per day in Paris when you did in fact have a day ration of 3 megasize cones with chocolat, pistache and nougat...... ;D ;D ;D), but you should NEVER tell stupid, idiotic big lies that will bury you. I am so angry at this moron - we had a winner, for once.

But I think that you already had a winner back in the '90s, hadn't you ? Can't remember his name though

>:(That makes me so mad! Why don't these bone-headed athletes realize that there is nothing to a victory that you get because you cheated?

anne266 - we had, yes. His name was Bjarne Riis, he is the manager of team CSC Tiscali. Or should I say was....... only 2 months ago he went public and admitted to having been doped during the Tour that he won.....
goldenmama - if only they would ALL take the doping nuts, then their chances would be equal and competition would be fair. I don't care what they do to their bodies, that's their own problem.
Tour de F. has turned into a soap opera.

I have a question. It may even seem to be an idiotic question, on the face of it, but here goes. If the cyclers KNOW they will be tested for doping, what makes them think they WON'T get caught? Am I missing an important element? Or is it just the arrogance of an world-class athlete?
It's such a shame for the sport. I don't know how they can reasonably expect to attract the next generation of cyclers.

Watched the news story last night about the other team getting booted but could not believe the Michael story this morning! How disappointing! Last year was..and still is as they still have not declared a winner!..such an embarrassment and now this. There could be a lone cyclist on the Champs Elysees at this point! Well I'll watch the coverage on Sunday...taped and edited of course..for the views of Paris and French countryside! They say that they keep coming up with new ways to dope, thinking they are one step ahead of the tests..and are for awhile.

Oh, dear regarding Rasmussen being booted off for misleading statements as to where he was during blood test times( e.g. Italy vs. Mexico!). Oh, dear! Here he was doing so well! Yes, I surely don't understand why anyone would endanger all their hard work/training, etc. by doing something that they know is against all the rules or could possibly work against them! These cyclists have so many tests, they might as well work under that notion of avoiding any appearance of (or actual) "cheating". I heard one person opine that "cheating" turns the Tour from an competition into an exhibition. (and yes, into a soap opera too, as Gitte previously commented!).

Ooh its getting exciting now. I'm watching live - we might live on the other side of the world - but its a sporting event so it gets regular nightly live coverage. Lots of people stay up to watch it and go to work bleary eyed. And now that there's an Aussie in the top running - I might even stay up 'til 2.30am myself to see the finish. (My commiserations for your guy Gitte, but his departure has been great for us).
They're in the Ronquex region now - just passed an unusual little Chateau Ronquex, and now the Chateau de Dampierre. Great aerial Chateau shots. They also just said that around 50 - 60 kangroos live wild in this area because someone thought it would be a good idea to release some there!!!
I'm just wondering how those narrow bike tyres go on the Champs Elysee stones???

Well that was great! I've never seen so many good aerial shots of Paris. If you've never seen the last section of the TdeF where the racers circuit the Champs Elysee and Tuileries 5 times, its worth it. Lots of different shots of the Louvre, Tuileries and Champs Elysee from the air. The helicopter even passed the third level of the Eiffel Tower close enough to count the tourists on it!
Best Paris photography you can get!
And the Aussie coming second was pretty good too - the first Australian to make it to the podium on the Tour.

Catherine - if I'd known you were up as well, we could have chatted - lol.
You're right about the aerial views of Paris, and I always thank the commentator for giving us a bit of a travel commentary.
Haha - just watching Contador on the podium - the guy is so tiny. Looks like a jockey.
Ok, now it's time to go to bed. Finally, my sleeping patterns will be back to normal.
Au Revoir Tour de France and see you again next year!
