Did you know there is a bronze 10 foot salamander on a building in the 20th? The "writing on the wall" says it is resting! Read this in a newsletter yesterday! Corner of Rue Vitruve and Rue Albert Marquet. Not Far from a square Salamandre!

Now that's something I'd like to see! Thanks!
I think it was Francis 1st who took the salamander as his symbol and if I remember correctly, there are many carved salamanders at Fontainebleau.
If I'm way off base here, please correct me.
Geordy, which newsletter? I'm always looking for new ones.

Well, I was gonna be a smartie pants and check it out on Pages Jaunes...but I just can't get used to their new format! I noticed a week or so ago that it's changed, but I haven't had the time to play with it much. Seems like they require more specific information than before, so it's not as easy to take a "stroll" up and down the streets of Paris as it used to be

Boy, I'm glad you said that, Annette. I thought it was me.
The advanced search is easier than the regular but the pictures seem to leap around when I'm trying to walk the street.

photos.mappy.com/x/voila3/home_paris.htmYou can find it here. Type this address: 46 Rue Vitruve - and then press "Trouver" You can also get a good look at it if you type the address: 8 Rue Albert Marquet + "Trouver" and then from the drop-down in the top-right corner of the photo you choose vue 2 or vue 4.

It doesn't appear that this building dates from the Renaissance, but the salamander pops up decoratively in buildings throughout Paris and the rest of France thanks to it's having been the personal symbol for François I.

Well it is on my list! May seem silly to go out of your way to see one thing like this(my S/O used to tease me, now he is a convert, "where is the list???') but you get to see an area you might not otherwise, stumble across something else of interest, beauty(never far away in Paris!) , rest at a cafe and see another slice of the world walk by on their daily rounds or whatever!! It was Bonjour. I don't subscribe just read the free stuff.

The things we learn here! While I can't say that the great Salamander is ..um..quite the looker.. it is interesting to learn about this critter and to learn of its apparent raison d'etre (i.e. Francois I). Now if I see the critter on one of my strolls en Paris, I can nod knowingly and say, but of course!
