On one of the Paris email blogs I get...maybe parleparis? she mentions visiting Place Sainte Catherine in the 4e "with it's cobblestone courtyard and lovely little bistrots." I can't find it in my L'Indispensable. It sounds charming. Does anyone know where it is? Is it a street or a place?

It is Place du Marche St. Catherine..very close to Pl. des Vosges, off of Rue Jarente. It is a lovely little place I've eaten at three of the bistros, I think one recently renovated or changed hands. Enjoyed all three, particularly nice in fine weather when you can eat outdoors but I stayed near there two winters ago and they also employ heat lamps and plastic "walls/covering" in cold weather.

Thanks Geordy. The name was sure truncated. I can find it with the whole name.

I'd highly recommend the restaurant on the square called "Le Marché". It makes for a superb Sunday lunch in an unbeatable environment. Afterwards, you can stroll the Marais, since most of the stores are open on Sundays.

greyhost - I can't see how you can have missed it if you have been in Le Marais, e.g. on Place des Vosges. Could the resto Truffaut is referring to be called "Au Bistrot de la Place" ? Anyway there are 2 nice ones on your right hand side, when you come south from the Seine.

I believe it is called Le Marché. Of the two on the right (east) side of the square, it is the one closer to the river. It has green awnings or umbrellas (can't remember which).

Here's more information you really don't need. In Gitte's photo above, the cafe on the far right was formerly called La Belle Histoire, but the last time we were there the name had changed to something like "Rouge," and as I recall it featured lots of tomato dishes on the menu. Also, for any of you shopping for a fabulous French wedding gown -- you never know when you might need one --- , the designer Suzanne Ermann has a shop located on the place.
