I don't go to these here but have been worried about the shrinking dollar. The Sunday Times had an article on European Shopping Villages including one outside of Paris called La Valee Village. Apparently there is a Lalique Outlet. Now I have a weakness for Lalique but had written off buying any this trip. Was wondering if these were worthwhile outlets, e.g. good stock and real deals to make it worth taking a precious day and traveling out to shop. I am not interested in seconds or junk. On the other hand, when in San Juan a local resident and good friend took me to the Coach Outlet and I found the model bag I have used for years that is discontinued here at a fraction of the cost and purchased two. So I figure locals might know whether this is OK.

Holger - I never went to La Vallee but I had a look at the outlet center website (www.lavalleevillage.com) and thought that the brands that sell there are rather nice, upper-range ones . Now, I have no idea what the goods on offer are worth : in my experience, you never know what to expect in an outlet center, sometimes the same one can be nice once and disappointing the next time you go . That can apply to the Lalique shop as well : I guess that the shop has a mix of previous years collections (which could be really nice, I guess that you are not picky about wearing Lalique jewels from a previous year collection ) and of second choice . Now, which of the two type of items is pre-eminent, I cannot say . As far as I am concerned, I have been disappointed often enough with outlet centers (including some in the US) that I have decided that I would not go out of my way anymore for one of those . Since La Vallee is near Disneyland, you are likely indeed to spend a whole day there, so unless someone here has already visited it and is raving about it, well ...

Thanks Anne, Unless someone here has actually been, I probably won't make the trip. here is too much to do in Paris proper to take a whole day. last year I had seen a ring in the Lalique store under the Louvre courtyard but did not spend the money. Obviously, it is not something I need although I will look around. By the time I spend the fare to get to the outlet, etc. unless savings were really good, it may well not be worth the trip.

Holger, wouldn't you be afraid of breaking such a ring by knocking your hand ?

No. I take all my rings off if I am doing anything really manually risky. But this one was set well and should be OK. It is not one I would wear every day anyway. Besides, seeing it again I could decide I don't really like it.
