Over the past ten or so years, I have made many purchase from Galerie M. Benezit, 29 rue de Seine (about two blocks in from the river, bright blue shop exterior).
The woman who runs it is very nice. The gallery stocks many small (e.g., 2x3 inch) signed original etchings (many are humorous) that are great as little gifts and most are not expensive. She also carries some slightly larger items, also very nice and not very expensive. Well worth a look if you're stumped for what to get someone.
Note: original art is not subject to duty when coming into the US!
Also - if you're in the area around lunchtime (or just want a cup of coffee and some people watching), La Pallette is just up the street two or three blocks, on the same side of the street.
