This link leads to a long article about Paris in today's San Francisco Chronicle, with some interesting comments and information about a flea market at Vanves that's not as well known (at least to tourists) as the really big ones like Clignacourt. I particularly would like to check out the flea market that's discussed -- has anyone else been there? Link: www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/07/08/TRGS2QQGG01.DTL

Thanks for the link. I keep saying I'll go to that flea market but keep postponing it. Maybe next trip.

Hi Becky, I love going to the flea market at Vanves, and we've bought some wonderful things there -- at least I think they're wonderful! We love to leave our teenagers sleeping, and head there early on Saturday mornings. Many of the vendors back their vans up to the curb and unload right onto the sidewalk. It has a much more folksy feel than the big market at Clingnacourt. As the morning goes on, it gets more and more crowded. We've bumped into several Americans buying for their shops back in the USA, but never Catherine Deneuve! The market stretches for a long way, and it takes most of a morning to see it all. I always get tired after an hour or two, but hate to leave because I'm always sure there's a treasure lurking just a little farther along.

We were at Vanves last Sunday morning, but didn't buy anything. It's hit or miss, but we have pulled some wonderful things from there in the past. I can't imagine that Catherine Deneuve has ever trooped through Vanves, but I'd probably wet myself if I saw her!
