I know this isn't one of the top places to go, but since we've been to all the other places along the Axe Historique, I thought we might include Le Grande Arche on this visit .
Is there anything else to do in the area or do we make a visit to the top and come back into town?

I do love the cemetaries too Gitte~ however my DH swears if I drag him off to Pere LaChaise one more time he's going to leave me there !I'm going to sneak it in next month though when we go to La Boulangerie that Darcy found for for lunch one day. If you don't see me around ...send out a search party!!

Appart from a big centre commercial (shopping center), there is nothing but offices at La Défense . I used to go at La Défense on day trips from Strasbourg while I was working, and I can remember reflecting each time I was there on how gloomy this whole area must be on Sundays, when the offices are empty .

Hi Demarais, The view from the top is very good, and on last visit their was a photographic exhibition in the top floor gallery, including a section on the terror attacks on New York which was very moving. That I would say would be the only reason for a short visit, and as others have said their is much concrete! PS: Enjoy the ride in the lift

Demarias, what day is it that you head back to London (26-27?)? I think you'll just barely miss the Marche de Noel at La Defense--it opens Dec. 28. That would have given you something else to do after going up the arche.

I have never done Defense as I have limited energy with my health and it just does not seem worth it and after reading the comments - I made a right decision! LOL

www.ourparisforum.com/index.cgi?board=sites&action=display&thread=1185675277lady, it is definitely worth a visit - to see La Grande Arche. It won't take you more than a metro ride to the end of line 1. La Défense is interesting in its own right - some say ugly - but it is impossible to judge the place by Haussmannian standards. When you come up the escalator and see La Grande Arche it is a shock to the sight. The cube measures 110 meters on each side, which is not really big in Paris, but since is placed highly elevated in relation to the square, it is quite overwhelming. You could do it as a starting or ending point for visiting the axis, going from Pei's glass pyramid, through l'Arc de Carroussel, Jardin des Tuileries, the obelisque on Place de la Concorde, Champs Elysées and Arc de Triomphe.
