I would advise you to visit these passages while the shops are opened . I mean, the passages have long opening hours (like Vero-Dodat is 7am - 10pm), but the shops there have "normal" opening hours . So we visited Vero-Dodat during lunchtime closure and it felt very cold and was empty . I guess that one can admire the architecture better when there is no animation around, but we didn't like it that way . Animation is part of these passages' charm ...

Great links, Gitte! A couple of these are definitely on my to-do list. Thanks for sharing.

I was going to post that link when I saw that Gitte had beaten me to it. I carry the locations of the passages with me and, when I'm wandering about, I will look at the list to see if I'm near any. I've still got about four or five to see, and one of them (I can't remember the name, it's off rue St Denis) wasn't particularly interesting, but the others are wonderful!

Oh the passages are wonderful. I feel like I should be in a victorian outfit walking my dog with a umbrella a'la Degas's drawing of the wonderful american artist Mary Cassette.

I did a few of these passages during my trip to Paris last month. I normally do the Galerie Vivienne in most of my visits there but this time, I also visited the Valerie Vero-Dodat, Galerie Colbert and Passage Choiseul. During the years we lived in Paris in the 80's, I arranged a series of wine tasting classes with a young English woman for the American Women's Group. Those were fun. Of course, I was considerably younger at the time. Is life fair?
Visiting these passages panoramique is highly recommended! Thanks, Gitte for starting this thread.

Oh, the passages are lovely! The shops in them are lovely, there's a great shop selling antique post cards that I always check out. Post cards are so easy to pack! Now if I could just remember which passage it is in! Demarais probably knows. And if I were not completely addicted to apts rather than hotels, I would stay at Hotel Chopin in passage Jouffroy. It's been on my list for a long time.
