I watched a TV program last night that mentioned Bois de Boulogne, the actor talking about it said that it was a "den of eniquity" where all sorts of strange things happened!!! Like men dressed as women sold there wares etc. Hubby googled it afterwards and discovered that it had lots of attractions, a managery, race tracks, amusement park etc........My question is, what is the true story behind this place and is it worth a visit?

andi - it is said that after dark you can purchase all sorts of exciting services in the Bois.............. Haven't you ever read the diaries of Anaïs Nin under your duvet with your flashlight on You can get a glimpse of the Bois after dark in The Da Vinci Code as well. In the daytime it is all bourgeoisie and roses. Buy the DVD "Gigi" a musical from the 50'ties with Maurice Chevalier !! that will paint the picture.... In about 3 weeks I shall be in Paris and I plan to spend a lovely afternoon out in the Bois looking at the rosegarden + renting a bike to get around. Trust me - you WILL hear bout it if someone offers me something out of the ordinary !!!!!!!!!!

After dark, the Boulogne is not really the place to be unless you're a Brazilian transexual prostitute (or looking to hire one). During the day, it's lovely.

Hey! We're going to Parc de Bagatelle in the Bois tomorrow! Hoping to see some roses out but with this weird weather this week, who knows!

catherine - I look forward to hearing about the roses - AND about how you managed transport to/from central Paris. I plan renting a bike at Jardin d'Acclimatation - if I can find it.
