Do you think we can use (copy/paste) information from TA board?E.g. Arrow did a great job explaining "how to do Versailles" to me, can I use it?

I shouldn't see why not, just review it before posting and take out anything relating to the other site in any way, shape or form! Information is purely information.

Actually, it's a very definite problem:

What do you mean, here it goes? I copied the text so that everyone knows the situation. You can be sure that TA is watching and would be all over this site in a heartbeat if their content is copied.

I know, I know! My post was about the fact that I thought exactly the same thing that you copied from TA! That it will be a problem.
Is there anything to be angry about?

PLEASE do not copy text from Trip Advisor. You may link to their postings, but do not copy!! Robertzimmerman is undoubtedly right that they are watching and waiting for an infraction....

I know he is right, I just didn´t get the "tone" of his post. Seems like he is offended or something.

I know he is right, I just didn´t get the "tone" of his post. Seems like he is offended or something. "Tone" is something very tricky in online conversations and has led to ugly situations on other sites very frequently. It's very easy to misinterpret "tone". I wouldn't attribute too much to it. RobertZ just wants to make sure that we stay on the right track here and not cause any problems by unfairly copying from other sites.

If I were angry, there would be no subtleties of tone to parse, trust me.

Maybe since Arrow is a member here, we can just ask him to explain again?

White flag, Robert
Becky- great idea, his/her (?) posts about Versailles are always very comprehensive and up to date.

Unless they designed it or bought it they cannot copyright some of the items they list, they do not own the copyright to links to websites. i.e mappy.com and if I am reading it correctly they are saying they own any picture we have posted. Yes, No? on pictures.

Penny - I went and read their explanation this morning with exactly that concern. I think what they are saying is that they have the right to use them if we post them, but not that no one else can use them (I think the reference was to a "nonexclusive" license to use material posted on their site). Their proprietary rights probablay would be with regard to what they created (or had created for them) and put onto the site. (Plus, keep in mind this was written by their lawyers as a deterrent so of course it will be worded very broadly to keep people from pushing the envelope, even if what they are claiming to own isn't necessarily strictly correct.)

Agreed. I have only been lurking up to now, but feel the need to comment. Anything posted on TA becomes the property of TA. So they do own what you post. If you care at all about Truffaut & Co's efforts here, you might not want to put him in legal jeapardy by cross posting stuff from Trip Advisor and drawing the attention of the TA goons to this forum. I like the idea of this blog but don't know how much I will participate as it appears to be developing into a coffee klatch with its primary focus being complaints and drama about TA. Can we please focus on Paris? PP

parispixie - you obviously looked for the wrong post. We are in fact very busy "focusing on Paris", which you will find out if you browse through some of the other categories.

Hi, and welcome parispixie -- As you go through the various threads, I think you will see that as the site has matured a bit (if a few weeks can be considered "mature"), we all have felt the same concern about focus and there has been a concerted effort to get that type of information to the forefront. As to the issue of whether we "own" what we previously posted, I would say that we "own" what we think and know, but not the exact words in which we previously expressed them. So, if you said something before, IMO you can say it again -- but please don't just find the old post and copy it in because that could cause trouble (and even if ultimately someone says "they" are wrong, none of us want to deal with the distraction and hassle of trying to prove that they are wrong).

parispixie - I agree with Gitte - if you look at the postings just from today you will find a WEALTH of Paris info. Perhaps you should give the forum another chance. To say that the primary focus of this entire form is dram/complaints about TA is simply an overstatement, IMHO...
