I love black and white photography and had this on my list last summer, but time didn't permit.
Is there a permanent exhibit of Cartier-Bresson's work there or are there special exhibits of others' work?
Is there a permanent exhibit anywhere in Paris of black and white photography of the famous ones, Atget, Cartier-Bresson, Brasaii (sp?), etc.?
I know someone on this board can help me find my way to a great exhibit!!!

There is no permanent exhibit of HCB at the Fondation. The exhibits alternate between his works and other prized photographers. The Fondation's large collection of HCB work is open to researchers but not the general public.
If you are interested in photography you must visited the Maison Européenne de la photographie at 5 rue de Fourcy in the 4ème arrondissement. There is always something interesting to see there.

Hi luvparee,
This is my first posting - finally a question I can answer!
I saw a huge exhibit of Atget a few weeks ago at La Bibiotheque Richelieu (58 rue Richelieu). I think it is there into July, but maybe someone can verify this for me.
Wish I could advise you on Cartier-Bresson. I saw an exhibit of his in Rome years ago and have never forgotten it.
I agree with Luckyluc that the Maison Europeenne de la Photographie is a great place. There were some B&W exhibits there in May, but my favorite was a color photo exhibit called Trash. Two French artists collected the trash of famous people from Ronald Reagan to Madonna and made installations which they photographed. I guess it's a statement on the American obsession with celebrity taken to an extreme. What we see is that they are just ordinary folks eating take-out, drinking soda, etc. By the way, someone in Madonna's house eats Coco-Puffs! Not sure if I'd want my trash on display, but it was pretty intriguing.

There is a thread about the Atget exhibit in our Art and Culture section. It will end on July 1st.

Merci, all! Welcome, jpcat! Honored that I'm your first post!!
I had read about the Atget exhibition ending in July, but I'm not in Paris until probably next June. d**n!!!
Does the Maison Europeenne de la Photographie have any permanent exhibits of the three I mentioned, or others B & W "specialists?" Somehow looking at Madonna's garbage (or anyone else's, for that matter) doesn't do it for me!
What publication or online source can I check out when I'm sure of when I'll be in Paris to see what might be available?
Gitte -- here are some additional "nerd" questions for you ....... what arrondissement is best to stay in? when should I go to Paris? How do I get from the airport to my hotel? How much money should I bring? Where should I eat? (If I knew how to do it, I'd insert a smiley face or something perhaps a little more sophisticated!!).

Luvparee - There is a website for the Maison Euopean that lists a permanent collection from the past 50 years, but not including the three you mentioned. Here's the link for the list: www.mep-fr.org/actu_1.htmJust a suggestion: I see you are in the Chicago area. You might ask one of the curators in the photography department of the Art Institute to advise you on collections in Paris. And please let me know if you find out anything.

I don't think I can help you with those, but I'm sure that if you post them in one certain other forum, you will get plenty of replies !! Could you ask them from me: "What if I get to CDG airport and can't find Paris ?"
