I am VERY excited!! Today in the mail I received my invitation to the 100 year anniversary dinner of the Societe des Amis de Versailles, to be held at Versailles on 1 Oct.....and I will be in France!!!
The invitation says there will be music first in the Salon d'Hercule, followed by a tour of the King's Apartments with a walk through the new Galerie des Glaces. The fountains will be playing to be viewed from the Galerie, then a tour of the Queens' Apartments, ending with a "diner d'apparat" in the Galerie des Batailles!!!!
The really BAD news is that it's 450€ per person!!!! But I think I'm going to go. It's only once, right?? Now I just have to find a date...or a Sugar Daddy.

WOW! What an evening in perspective! Since you are in France for that date you MUST MUST go. Take the money that was supposed to be for the rainy days and used it for the roi soleil. Are you allowed a guest???

Yes Luc, I am. Wanna go?? I have to respond by (and put down a 100€ p.p. deposit) by 10 june. But the invitation says "il va de soi que cette soiree est la votre et que nous souhaitons que vous invitiez vos amis a ce gala exceptionnel"....I take that to mean I could invite a guest, if not the entire Our Paris board as long as we coughed up the money. LOL.

About the "shall I go part," I'm confused -- what was the question?? Of course you will go (if you offend someone, they'll never invite you back!), and then we can all hear about it!
Seriously, I think that's just an amazing opportunity and am simply envious -- who cares if it means eating from crepe stands most of the rest of the trip!

;D You lucky person! You must go even if it means scrimping on other meals. This truly sounds wonderful and we will all be waiting to hear about it when you return. There are some experiences where not spending money is "penny wise and pound foolish." Take pictures and have a ball! ;D ;D

Yes, you have to go and tell us about it so we can all feel a part of it by proxy! Sounds like an amazing evening!

Agree with the others - rob a bank, push mother-in-law down the stairs, or whatever it takes. Louis will punish you severely in your afterlife, if you pass on this chance......

Wow,, what an incredible invitation,, I would do what ever it took to attend such an event,, truly once in a lifetime. And you are going to be in France at the time anyways, which means, you are sort of saving money,, since you don't need to fly in just to attend this function,, so it is an econmy to attend,, ha ha, I can justify anything!

So glad you decided to go..that has to be "karma" that you will be in Paris anyway! That's sort of how this love affair with Paris started for me. I got a notice to pick up a package at the Post office. Hadn't ordered anything so did not know what to expect. This was 1993. It was a limited edition lithograph(sp?) from Mumm's to promote a "new" champagne. And an invite...I thought to someplace in NYC where they would be serving it..but nope they said send back card as to when you might be in France, stop by the caves, and we'll have a bottle reserved for you! Sent the card back saying spring or fall on a lark. Wound up going to Paris for my B'day(described on TA..it had been a bad year and a former first trip had not been great) , threw in a 3 night trip to Champagne region, went to Mumm's , got my free bottle,(and a few more paid for at other Caves!) , had a marvelous time all round and the rest is HISTORY!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Geordy and Arrow -- this sounds a bit like an article I read not too long ago, about a guy who decided to experiment by saying yes to anything anyone suggested doing, for a month, even if ordinarily he would have run the other direction. Of course, neither of you would run the other direction from these opportunities, but we're all glad you said yes and we're just waiting for our own fabulous offers to come along!
